So the supercharger in my XF started making a noise at idle that went away under load. I concluded that it was a bad coupler. Based on best advice on all the forums the s/c needed to come out or at least the front end lifted enough to allow access to the 8 bolts holding the snout on. I spent days taking off everything the manuals said needed to come off (I broke a few plastic connectors) until I was ready to lift the s/c out - well, it would not budge and many have had trouble getting it loose. Suggestions include hitting it with a rubber mallet - using pry bars and crowbars all the way to an elaborate frame across the engine bay and two strong guys to lift it out.
Well I did none of that I went on to Amazon and bought one of these...
[Anytime Tools Machinist Jack Screw Set 8 pc 1-1/2" - 3-3/4": Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific](
At its lowest setting its 1.5 inches tall and just fits under the snout of the s/c close to the pulley. I easily raised the snout about half an inch using this jack after which a gentle prod with a crowbar and the s/c came off the block. 20 mins start to finish including thinking time.
By raising the front of the s/c I was able to get at the 8 bolts holding the snout on. Needless to say removing the bolts made no difference - the snout is firmly attached to the body of the s/c and once again suggestions include hitting it with a mallet or using a cold chisel neither of which appeals.
If anyone has a tip for getting the snout off I would love to hear it. Hope this helps someone.
James.
Not much help but as you found out that sealant is tough. Be sure and use the proper sealant when replacing the snout too. Not just silicone. Don't know why they want it glued on so tight but it's what Jaguar recommends. Loctite 515 a bit hard to find.
Jaguar did gave us a spot to pry the SC snout off too. Some people say it's still hard to separate them.

Loctite 515 - excellent - Amazon seems to have it...
I found the pry spot and with relative ease a crowbar got it off. Now for the coupler - part of the spring came out but part of it is still in there - I either broke it or it comes in 2 parts.

The spring can and does break from use. Yours looks pretty bad with the damage done to the shaft. Pretty deep grooves?
Don't know if the grooves will cause any problems but that's why I got another complete snout from Jaguar.
Are you going with a solid coupler? We have had a long discussion about the pro's and apparently cons too of the solid spacer. Solid Coupler

I think I have to go with a solid coupler - the deeps scores left in the shaft (from the spring I assume) makes me think fitting a spring coupler will give me problems. From all the discussion I have seen it seems hit and miss for people having issues with a solid coupler so fingers crossed I don't have nasty noises when its all back together. There are shops here in the US that recondition snouts and will do an exchange - that's plan B.
I am now putting everything back and had a terrible time getting the supercharger back on - have to align the s/c then gasket then the block. Found this thread that describes using home made guide pins. Thanks to Bigg Will. XFR Water pump change - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
The home made part is important because you can buy them - I have seen them for around $70 each. You need 4. Ugh!
Making my own cost less then $5 and they worked perfectly.
