USB Drive
I have been using a USB drive in my XF for several years now. It seems to play MP3 files most of the time. All new MP3 files I add seem to produce "File or folder not available" messages. WMA files work. Oddly enough, I hear a faint background noise on the newer WMA files that sounds like a faint conversation in the background. But this background noise does not appear on the PC. I have been using Audacity to convert MP3 files which it can't read to WMA files. Any suggestions?
Yes - if you search around on the forum you'll find lots on this issue. As far as I can remember the XF can't play VBR variable bit rate mp3 files. And also can't play above a particular sampling rate. Try fixed but rate and see if that helps
I suspect the program that I am using changed from CBR to VBR default. Using CBR seems to work fine. Thanks to all.
is there any way to upgrade this in the car? makes me mad that I have a fairly new car with such **** tech. Even a 8 year old honda system can read most any mp3 files. I still have another ten months of payments to go
Others have upgraded their stereos, but they're integrated into the touchscreen & the other functions. If you do a search on here & the UK site, you'll find posts with full instructions. Easier to just make sure your Mp3's are encoded with CBR.
My guess is that the MP3 read function is in an FPGA in the stereo head and thus not accessible by Jaguar software updates.

No way to upgrade the system. I just downsampled the MP3's to 192Kbps constant bit rate (CBR) and they all work. Clarity and sound is fine and I hold a lot more on a USB Drive. I have a 64GB drive and of course don't have enough music to fill that up!
You can upgrade the entertainment system as others have successfully done it. Seems complicated to me and it means the Jaguar equipment needs to be replaced, as there is no Jaguar software fix for your Mp3 issue.
