Default What goes when on an XFR

I'm currently looking to get a used XFR, probably a 2010 one with average-ish mileage on the clock. So far I've discovered a few things that tend to go 'prematurely':

Water pump;
Suspension arms (lower only?);
E-diff motor;
Tyre pressure sensors;
Windscreen delamination.

Any feel for when things typically go, if they're going to? Are replacements any more robust? Are there any other common faults/failures to watch out for?

Also, I've historically thought a higher milage newer car would last me longer than an older, lower-milage equivalent for the same cash. Any thoughts on this philosophy would be appreciated!

Yikes! That's a lot for only 35K miles.

Yep, my 2010 XFR is at 40,700 miles and hasn't had a single problem other than needing a new battery.

I am guessing he's had that work done under warranty. It's amazing what they find wrong with your car when you have a warranty.

The only thing that was suspect from the list were the Control Arms. They had "play" but not much.

Everything else was straight legit repairs. Actual seepage and leaks.

Thank god for an extended warranty!

I think it is weird that they replace the entire control arms.
I already had a shop here look at mine and they already found new bushings that would fit.

What made them look at the control arms and bushings at low miles?

Steering wheel vibration. A "little play" but enough for the warranty to cover it.

Little squirt of some old oil while you're not looking, and cha-ching!

Owner's predictable response: "Thank god I paid $5000 for an extended warranty!"

Would agree with you but the inspector came out to verify the claims.

Aside from covering expensive repairs...the extended warranty helps sell the car when I move onto the next.

Once you do the labour to get the control arms off it often makes little difference to cost if you replace the bushings or whole arm. On our LR4 which is prone to the bushings wearing you typically replace the whole arm as getting the old bushings out and the new ones in is such a pita that the hour or so of labor basically offsets the saving of not just replacing the whole arm..

But as you say if you can do the bushings easily and the arms aren't bent or damaged then that's a good approach

Little cash handed indiscriminately to the inspector, and bam, approved!

What do you think an inspector gets paid per hour? Benefits? A little extra cash on the side wouldn't hurt.

Seems unusual for the age + mileage. Probably only a good advert for the warranty you took out (they actually paid up!)

Anyone else had suspension arms replaced around 35k miles and then again at 70k? I'm basically wondering whether finding one that's had suspension arms and water pump done is likely to mean those parts will be good for 100k miles or if I need to consider them as 'consumables' that'll go every 40-50k.

2010 XFR 86,000 miles.

Had the E-Diff replaced three years ago under the pre-owned warranty. Had the dash reaplaced... Jag paid for part I paid for labor. That's all for me... although today I discovered the doors are no longer locking but hopefully that's an easy fix.

Cheers, Will

2010 XFR owner here, 29000 miles on the Odo.
So far just the usual recalls, and a rear hub bearing replaced. Otherwise no major issues.
