Default What tires for XF with 20" Rims?

Recently took in car to dealer and they found sidewall damage. Recommended a change of tires.

The rims I have are 'Selena' 20s. I think they mentioned Michelin Sports. Are these good tires? I know most of the time I think they put Continentals on the XF. How does the extreme contact compare with Michelin Pro / Super Sports>

Also what price is reasonable? I think they quoted about 1100-1200 at dealer. No costco near me. Would you buy tires and have them installed at dealer?

Lots of discussion on the F-Type pages about "which tyre is best?" and the hands down winner especially in the 20" category is the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.
Nothing but rave reviews about them and not a single negative review.
But don't buy them from or get them fitted by a dealer, go to a proper tyre shop instead.

Go to Discount tire near you.

What trim and engine do you have, what sort of driving do you drive?

Do you drive it in rain or snow?

Are your wheels the same width or are they staggard?

Sounds like I should make a trip to Discount tire. Yes although I want good performance, something all seasons is important. Some times have to drive in the rain/cold conditions also. I think they're staggered

Easy to tell if they are staggered. The fronts should be 255/35/20 and the rears should be 285/30/20 if they are.

If not, they most likely will be 255/35/20 on all 4 corners.

If staggered, then your options are less if you want to stay all 4 the same brand model. If they are the same size, then you have many choices.

I recently put the Pilot 4S on my 2010 XF SC with the 20 inch Selena wheels (staggered setup) and they are terrific tires. You won't regret the choice!

I have found out that they are all the same, 255/35ZR 20 all around.

Took pictures of them and there are some areas of sid

ewall damage you may see - although the pictures aren't great.. Currently running Nexen N3000.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S seems to be excellent, and I was quoted 1190 at the dealer for it including labor. I dont understand why that price is fairly good/cheap because on Discount tire, the 4 tires amount to $1361.

Anyhow, does this damage / my current tires look in need of replacement? I Suppose it would increase ride quality/stopping performance, etc. But does it look in need of getting the new tires? The Pilot Sport 4S seems excellent, I'd love them, but just wondering more about the value for money vs. what I have currently..

I would go with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06.

They are a very good tire that has excellent dry traction and is almost as good in the winter/cold as dedicated snow tires.

And the bead where the tire meets the wheel has a very nice feature that is a biult-up rubber lip that sticks out over the wheel lip protecting the wheel from getting curbed up.

And the best thing is you should be out the door for around the $1000.00 mark.

I would highly recommend the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ high performance all season. I have had them on the XJL for the last 10,000 miles and they have been great. They are very quiet, ride well and handle very good. I just came back from a trip to Louisville, KY and I put them through a downhill turn rated at 55 at 90 and they were fine. I think that is fast enough on a public highway.

Well, Michelin (AS3+ and Pilot 4S) and or Continental Extremecontact DWS06 seem like very good choices. I am sure they are both very nice tires, but it would be nice to get a comparison side by side. Anyone drove both? i'm wondering if they're about the same for quietness, all seasonness, summer performance, or if they each have areas they do particularly well? Reason I am asking so I can get a better idea of what I think I would prefer/suit my driving preferences

Also - it is a slightly different question - but one I neverhtless would like to ask. Obviously it's down to personal choice/circumstances - but imagine you hypothetically had a car without any tires. And I was giving a gift - you could choose between:

Either my Nexen 3000 tires pictured, with some damage as shown, and $1000 cash.

OR

Michelin Pilot 4S / AS3+ Tires no cash, OR Continental Extreme Tires, no cash.

Be sure to compare apples to apples and not oranges. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is strictly a summer dry pavement tire, whereas the Michelin Pilot Sport 3AS + and the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 are all-season tires, the two best on the market. These last two are classed as Ultra High Performance AS tires and are amazingly as good in the dry as the best summer tires of a decade ago and as good in winter (except deep snow) as the best winter tires of a decade ago. Of the two the Conti's rate somewhat better in winter conditions and wet pavement while the Pilots are very slightly better for road noise and gas mileage. The Conti's will cost less. You can't go wrong with either of these, and I would take that any day over your current no-name bargain tires. You drive a Jag, it deserves the best.

Totally agree. I ride high performance motorcycles on the street and the track where tires are even more critical than a car but as I tell less experienced riders, "Tires are cheaper than orthopedic surgeons". Last time I checked body shops that work on Jaguars are not exactly cheap so skimping on tires is not the way go. My criteria for car tires is that if you don't race I do not want your tires on my car.

Decided to order the Conti Extreme Contact DWS06 's from my local Discount Tire. Appointment late next week. Thanks again to everyone for their help! SHould be considerably better than my Nexen summer tires when winter shows up in full force
