where to locate / change gas filter on XF
Hi y'all
I post this because I had a hard time trying to locate and change the gas filter. A lot of post here say it's located near the back wheel (driver side)… IT'S WRONG !
Gas filter is LOCATED IN THE BACK OF THE FRONT (DRIVER SIDE) WHEEL !
You just have to take the wheel and the plastic gard off.
TOOLS YOU NEED TO HAVE
-A screw driver or anything that can help you take off the black plastic thing
- A ratchet whit a box size 10 (to unbolt the filter brace)
- A tool to disconnect the pipe from the filter (special tool, picture attached)
Hope this will help you locate your gas filter quickly

>The XF is a re-skinned S Type and shares almost everything under the skin with the S Type/Lincoln LS.
Just a note: I'd be a little careful about saying that. Yes the XF and later S-Types share many, many things, but that is not necessarily true for pre '02 S-Types and the Lincolns.

true but ...
It's true that the XF and s-type have many similarities, but some poeples just don't know that.
most of the time the person are looking for specific information on theirs model of car.
like I said in my first post, a lot of person on this site was pointing the person in the wrong direction ... so my post was to set it straight so they wont have to look every where under the car to find it.

That picture is exactly the same as ANY S Type 1999-2008 or ANY Lincoln LS 2000-2006.
Again the XF is entirely based on the DEW98 platform. Just put the cars on a lift and you won't be able to tell the difference!
I have a 2003 Lincoln LS and a 2005 STR. I do all my own work. They are very close cousins if not exact twins. Especially when you get to the individual parts.
A ton of stuff is still marked Ford. I have found a number of parts much cheaper at the Ford dealer by using the part numbers printed on the parts themselves.
The amazing part is how different they got the cars to look on the outside and inside!

The pictures posted above are good, but I'm not sure if they show the necessary details. Having had a 2000 Lincoln LS, prior to getting a 2009 XF Luxury, let me say this about the fuel filter replacement. The LS, and I'm pretty sure the "S Type", had the fuel line retained to the filters by a plastic "hairpin" type of clip, that sometimes, months after a filter replacement, would pop loose, allowing the fuel line to disconnect. This clip was a common Ford part.
A couple of months ago, I replaced the filter on my XF, for the first time. There are, at least on my car, a pair of light colored "buttons" on the connector on each side of the filter, that you simply depress, and this releases the line from the filter. This is, of course, after you've relieved the fuel pressure.

If the clips are not damaged and installed correctly they will not come off. Very often people break the tip of the clip and it will no longer stay in place. A lot of fuel filters come with the clips so you can replace them.
As posted above the key is using the right removal tool to prevent damage.

if someone try to take the clip off without it I wish this person good luck cause he's gonna have a hard time even with the proper tool it's kind off difficult.

I did that on my previous LS, and when I tried to do that on my '09 XF, THAT is when I found out about the "push buttons" that EASILY release the fuel line. Somehow or other, by trying to use the "release tool", I got the fuel line disconnected. What I think happened, is I pushed the buttons without realizing it, when I was trying to cram the tool in place.
After the lines released, I replaced the filter, and then went to wrap a ty-rap around the fitting, thinking it would keep things in place. What happened, was as I tightened the ty-rap, it squeezed the button, and the line disconnected itself.
At this point, I realized how the line disconnects....

Fuel filter
What I did is that I called my Jaguar local dealer and asked for the fuel filter that fitted on my jaguar and they shipped it to my house. The fuel filter is not that expensive. But if you go to a local car parts dealership like napa they should be able to get u the fuel filter that fit your Jaguar.

After changing the filter in the gas tank, I really have to wonder if this fuel filter in the wheel arch needs to be replaced, and maybe it's just there redundantly as it was easier for Jag to leave it in the system than delete it with the new XF design.
I would definitely recommend changing the filter in the top of the tank before you bother to change this filter because the wheel well filter is metal and the fuel tank filter is plastic that is known to crack and leak (it did on one of my XF's already).
