Default Quick Question On The Heater Pump?

Without the engine running, ignition on and fan control running inside the car, ... Is the pump supposed to vibrate? .... Mine only seems to do this when the engine is started, is that correct on testing the pump out?

Thanks

Hi
The vibration noise could be "Suction pipe touching bank 1 (A) cylinder head (rubber isolator missing)" - "Check the pipe cluster for correct fitting".

I found this information in the JTIS21 repair shop manual under Electrical - Climate Control System General Information - Diagnosis and Testing - Climate Control System - Noisy system.

Probably not. I have never perceived my pump vibrating.

I can remember at least one post on a pump running but impeller not turning or in your case maybe it is about to quit turning.

The pump has not had a high volume of failures but the ones reported seem to be a little hard to diagnose. Also, a search did not find many specific references, only those buried within other heater issues too numerous to start manually looking through unless it was my personal problem.

Many thanks for all your replies on this

I am probably going to get another pump, after I check the voltage and the sensor inside the car first (my heater is blowing nice hot air from the top, but only slightly warm from the bottom)

Here are the pictures of my pump when I took it apart, does it looked like it's time for a new one to you guys?

From my experience with the one from a XJ6. The brushes are worn out. A electric motor repair shop can install new brushes, but cant turn the armature because the of the way it is put together.
My repair lasted about 2 years the brushes went out again.
I found one one EBay reasonable and intalled it.

The brushes are the weak spot as this motor runs any time the car is operating heat or not.

They are expensive new.

Good Luck.

Thanks again for all your replies, I appreciate it

I am definately going to buy a new pump now (recon one) because when I took the expansion tank filler cap off, the water was just sitting there with the engine running, ... The water wasn't moving!! It should have been like a whirlpool in there!!

Maybe a quick test once it's off, couple of hose pipe sections/bucket and a battery.

I just wanted to say this thread is very helpful... I am about to pull my pump apart.

Hopefully I can get away with new brushes and a general cleanup. the car only has 175,000 KM on her so I am hoping it is easy on the pocketbook. I just had my alt rebuilt but is usually a trouble free car aside from a few weird things.
