Default Added Crossdrilled Rotors on 04 XJR

Got new front cross drilled rotors from brakeperformance.com at $175 psir and $27 for front brake hardware. Ordered Akebonos EUR938 from Amazon at $92.

Pictures of rotors:

Didn't realize how huge rotors the XJR takes!

Before shot:

Started by opening the master cylinder cap. Removed hardware pins. First a few light hammer taps then pulled out with pliers and few gentle taps.

Using a screwdriver gently push back the pads pushing pistons in. Removed the pads.

Unbolted the caliper and removed old rotor.

Installed new rotor. Looking nice!

Greased the new pads. Install along with new hardware.

Brake in new rotors as per supplied instructions. (pun intended)

After shots!

Stay tuned for rears in future. Gotta save a few more bucks. Can't comment on performance yet since they are gonna be in brake in mode for at least 50 miles.

These rotors seem like they are good for the price especially with the warranty, but a caution to those looking for brakes, I have heard that Brake Performance cross drilled rotors can have some issues. If you look at your first pic,

It looks like some of the holes drilled run into the interior vanes of the rotor. In other words, they don't go all the way through the rotor and weaken the integrity of the rotor. Its hard to tell from your photos, but can you comment on if this is true? I was looking into getting some rotors from Brake Performance too before I learned about this. How many of your holes are drilled into the vanes inside the rotor, and are they drilled straight through to the other side and line up with the holes on the other side?

After doing some research, they seem more like a cosmetic brake company than performance. Their rotors are steel which do not perform as well as cast rotors and the ones they sell with dimples are just for looks to imitate cross drilled.

But then again its hard to argue with the price.

I went with drilled and slotted rotors after about 2 months of research.

That's exactly the first thing I checked for and found no problems. All holes are precise. They are made from cast iron.

I also wanted to mention that I was worried about the noise associated with cross drilled rotors. It has been a week and they have been really quiet. Will post updates if anything changes.

Thanks for the update BlackKat, I read some bad reviews of brake performance and wanted to hear your side.

Where did you get yours from? Any additional noise? I'm debating on slotted vs drilled vs slotted & drilled. I got slotted & drilled on my other car, and they are quite loud now.

Got them back in 2011, will have to check the boxes they were shipped in.... Nothing on the box, I think from here:

Did you get an increase in noise with the slotted and drilled rotors vs stock?

So far I haven't had any noise whatsoever and the xjr has been stopping smoothly. It just so happened I've had quite a few people cut me off this weekend where I had to brake at highway speed (70 mph). So far so good.
