20" Upgraded Wheels...
My 2019 XJ comes with the upgraded 20" wheels. Not sure if it's worth the extra $1500 over the standard 19" wheels.
Can someone pls give me more info on its advantages, if any, on weight, performance, materials, construction, etc...
Thanks,

20" 5 SPLIT-SPOKE 'STYLE 5045' WHEELS
Not an XJ owner but as far as I can figure out it's 99% about the looks. On a modern high end car 20" just looks better than 19" let alone 18" or 17".
They weigh more, they reduce performance (unsprung weight) and the tyres cost more than those on smaller wheels. Materials and construction are a wash, pretty much the same across the size range although some 20" are forged (which is better than cast) and not so many smaller ones are forged.

Yes, my wife's first comments are to never buy/pay for upgraded wheels since she always scuffed them up. Her previous Merc's AMG wheels were trashed.
Wonder if dealer will switch them back to orig 19" non-upgraded wheels & give us $1500 credit back...lol

Potholes and curbs don't discriminate between 19" and 20" wheels. Just because you have 19s doesn't mean that you'll be spared.
Some potholes and curbs will sneak up on you when you're not looking. That's what my wife said.

If looks don't matter, why buy an XJ? Save your money and get a Prius.
I have 20” on the XK and 19” on the XJ.
IMHO this is the good combination for both cars:
20” on an XJ do bring only negative on the performance/comfort side, cost more, and do not add much to the look of a luxury sedan car.
On the XK I have also 18” winter wheels and I prefer the handling with the 20” and of course the look. So the additional costs of the 20” is I think justified in that case.

My current 2015 is also on Aleutians as well.
I got my XJ as a used car with 20“ polished Orona rims. No negative aspects in terms of comfort or damage. But the look of the 20“ rims is so much better. I am so happy with them and would always choose the bigger wheel size offered by the manufacturer.
the 20's do look MUCH better on the car....especially over the ugly 19's they currently offer. the Torba rims arent bad looking. but the current multi spoke design is meh
I often look at the car and think even 20s are too small for it. Strangely, the ride quality of my X351 with 20" wheels is more comfortable and compliant than either one of my old X350s with 18"s.
Based on your of your wife's driving style there are more tires available for the 20" rims. Not knowing if you got a 6 or 8 also makes a difference on the braking system and rotor size. Lastly, if the Xj maromy (sticker on the window) had the wheels included in the build I would think the $1500 includes upgraded tires too.and IMHO not a bad deal.
