The trunk on my '14 XJL closes when a gust of wind hits it or if I just push down easily on it. It automatically opens just fine with the buttons or key fob. Not knowing which strut is bad I figure both need to be replaced.
I've seen posts here saying that you can use a long screwdriver or long pry bar to pop off the front end of the strut. That looks doable for the left hand side counter balance strut. The right hand side powered strut goes into a hole above the tire well and I see no way to slide in a screwdriver or pry bar - see picture below. The X351 service and repair manual posted on this forum (thanks a ton for that) says you need to remove the rear seat to get the struts out. While it doesn't look extremely difficult to remove the seat and seat back I just know that once I go down that road something will happen causing my wife to whack me upside the head for not taking it in.
Anyone have any experience with the XJL and replacing the right hand side powered strut?
Also, what is a good online store where I can get these parts?
Phone was tilted sideways a little. The large gap where the strut goes in is towards the top of the car.
