I would be interested to know the answer to the question, too. I asked my service advisor, but he said it's not possible - maybe, maybe not, I'm not convinced. My Portfolio has the rear seat package with massaging seats and it's frustrating to have to be a passenger to reap the benefit.
I doubt it's as easy as activating massage function on the touchscreen. Probably requires new seats with the correct air bladders. I'm willing to do it if I know how to do it.
I would be perfectly willing to buy different seats to install too! If it's was an option when built new, them there's some way to install it. Last I knew, Jaguar didn't have different wiring harness for different options. The info center should have the software that will put the button up when configured correctly. There may need to be a module installed, but again, the wiring harness should be there for it. So maybe module, seats, a fuse, plus the software edit. Just thought some techy on here might know
I just had a look in the parts catalogue, the lumbar unit is different in seats with massage function.
Actually there's three different versions;
2-way lumbar
4-way lumbar, no massage
4-way lumbar, with massage
Also appears that there is a different pump for the massage version, #4 in the drawing is "Lumbar Adjustable Pump 4-way massage"
Haven't checked the seat modules and other parts, but no doubt some changes needed there as well. I'd say it's a costly and complicated job to retrofit to an existing seat. If you found a pair of matching donor seats with all the features you wanted, that would be easier.
I'm new to this model, do you have a link to the parts manual so i can look through it? I understand donor seats may be necessary, but I have found seats with heat, cool and massage available for about $250 each.
LOL! That would negate the built in heating and cooling! AND.... if i wanted to avoid aggravation, i wouldn't have 2 jaguars
Is your Public Profile correct? It shows a 1995 Sovereign 4.0. Did you just buy the 2013 XJL? If not, and massaging seats are a must, then I suggest you keep looking nationwide for THE ONE that floats your boat. Otherwise, the cost of adding massaging seats will put you so far underwater that you'd wish you bought a submarine.
Owning two Jaguars is great fun, not aggravation. You just don't have the right two Jags.
Yes, the profile is correct. I have a 1995 XJ6 sovereign 4.0 RHD. Saying aggravation is sort of a joke, I love the car, it just chooses to have quirks now and then. We did just purchase a 2013 XJL 3.0 AWD. The only thing we were looking for that is "missing" from this one is massage.
I work industrial maintenance and am also familiar with cars inside and out, so it is weird to have people saying it's too tough or too expensive instead of just figuring out what is needed. there are plenty of Jaguars in junk yards with relatively inexpensive parts. especially parts that will most likely never sell for the junk yard. From what i am finding on a parts website, it looks like most everything is built onto the seats. The seats should use the same plugs. so swapping in a seat with massage and turning on the soft key in the command center looks like it should work! just need to find the tech info for the command center.
A definite PLUS when you have the skill, knowledge, tools and time to DIY, particularly when you can get the exact parts you need from a junkyard at a fraction of the original MSRP. Plus, you can (hopefully) sell your original seats on Ebay and recoup some cost.
I suggest that you start a new thread to document the removal of your original seats and replacement with the massaging seats, including photos of the wiring and touchscreen programming.
I looked at the 2013 product brief and it appears that all the front seats have 4 way lumbar. So it would seem that everything needed for massage is already in the seat. So, I'm surmising, that massage could be implemented through a software update/hack and that might be possible through a deep dive in the SDD settings.
One of the things I've missed in my four-years of ownership of my 2014 XJL is the massage function that I had on my 2012 XJL. It was standard in 2012 and made an option a year later. I recently perused a 2019 sales brochure (actually a book) and if appears that the massage function is once again standard. Am I reading that right? And if so, does anyone know when it became standard once again. I'm thinking of buying an EOY 2018 and was wondering if all such XJLs have it.
I am not sure why but was very surprised my 2014 XJR does Not have massage seats!
I would have thought the top model would have had just about everything?
