Default Advice On Replacing Front Chrome/Plastic Grille Surround

I've reached out before on this with no luck, so one more try. I want (need) to replace the chrome/plastic surround on my 2016 XJL. Getting the part is rather easy however, I cannot seem to find instructions as to how it can be replaced? I don't know if it "snaps" in or if I have to remove the entire grille assembly.

Your help on this is greatly appreciated...

Dave

Can't tell from your description but I installed the Adamesh SS mesh grills from the UK on a 2014 XJR. You will need to remove the entire front bumper to do the work.
If your interested they offer a few different styles and options.

Grills

Now that's not as bad as it sounds and is very easy to do. I like to use 2 people and some towels on the floor so you can pull the front bumper assembly straight out and set it down on the towels with no damage. Remember you have headlamp washers and front park sensors to disconnect before the bumper is free to be removed.

Only issue here is if your washer fluid tank is full it will **** all out on the floor when you pull the tube off.
What I do is put a rubber cap on the tube when I disconnect the headlight washers.

Can you post a picture of what your working on? The XJ has several grill's besides the large center one. To get to the surround the grill comes off first.
At any rate all the grills have plastic tabs holding them to the bumper. It's a bit fiddly to release and you probably will break one or more tabs. Again this is a great place to have some help and extra hands.

Be sure and do this in a heated garage or when it's hot outside. The cold will increase the likelihood of breaking tabs.

So go slow and remember EVERYTHING is expensive on this car!
I follow a saying I stole from the medical guys.

First do no harm. So if you can't do it or are unsure think about the extra cost of unnecessary broken parts.
Sometimes it's cheaper to pay the dealer to do things you don't know how to do.

Thanks for the reply and sage advise. The car is at the dealership for the software update (separate thread) I will confirm the necessary steps to remove and replace the surround. I suspect that this is not going to be a DIY project as such, I may take advantage of a friend that owns a body shop.

Much appreciated...

Tahoe Dave,

Its definitely a DIY. You can do it in about an hour. The bumper removal and grille removal process is simple. No special tools required. One man job. You just need to know where the screws are located.

I've completed this project, however I replaced the entire front end; to include the bumper, grille, and headlights. I basically updated my 2013 XJ to look like the 2016's on up.

Long story short, if for some reason you dont leverage your friend, PM me, and I'll get you through the project. I'm always willing to help, as the expertise of the gentlemen on this forum have assisted me in the past.

Below is a picture. This is my 2013 with the refreshed bumper and headlights.

ABrice,

Thank you for the response, not to mention the generous offer to walk me through the process. My car is still at the dealership (1 week!) hopefully it will be done today and then I'll start getting ready to replace the surround.
