Default Any fix for brake dust dirty wheels?

Good grief, I have to clean the wheels on my 2011 XJL base sedan after every little trip. I had a similiar problem with my '09 Vette which I corrected by switching to ceramic brake pads, which reduced the dust 90%, and adding caliper brake covers, which reduced it a bit more. I use ArmorAll Wheel Protectant on both cars, but the Jag wheels still get dirty all too quickly. Are their any brake pads available to reduce this problem? Thanks

Yes, it's a real nuisance. People have reported better results with EBC Greenstuff pads, I believe. You may find ceramic pads available like you have on your Corvette, so search the net.

Try Akebono - the S-Typers swear by them!

Agree with you on this one. Like many of us, I take pride in keeping my car very clean. Unfortunately, the amount of brake dust that shows up right away, even after one short trip after thorough cleaning, is unbelievable...even on the rear wheels. I used think my Audi was bad, but the Jag takes the prize now. I'm trying to relax about it a bit, but driving around with dirty rims on an otherwise spotless ride does play with my mind.

Thank "you'all" for your inputs. The EBC Green Stuff pads reduce brake dust by 30% according to the manufacture, whereas their Red Stuff pads reduce it by 50%, and are recommended for low dust street use on prestige imports where silent braking is required. Front and rear brake pads for my naturally aspirated XJL will set me back $325.64, and MGP custom caliper covers, painted Claret Metallic (my car's exterior color) with black simulated bolts, $299.00, to cover the double ugly caliper brakes, and to further reduce the amount of brake dust on the wheels. Bottom line: for parts and labor ($150.00 ?) I'm going to spend about $775.00 to reduce the brake dust problem to hopefully manageable proportions, not counting the cost of applying ArmorAll Wheel Protectant regularly. Worth it? That, of course, is an individual decision. Personally, in my opinion, even a Jaguar XJL isn't very elegant with dirty wheels, or double ugly brake calipers on display, so yes.

Another vote for the Akebono ceramic pads. They should have been factory!
Very little dust and it does not show.

The strange fact is that our 2012 XF that uses nearly identical calipers does not have the brake dust issue that our 2012 XJL has. The XF brakes feel at least as effective as the XJL. Not sure exactly why Jaguar went with those terrible pads for the XJL?

Yep, same here. I see the brake dust issue comes up a lot on here, but my 2012 XF barely produces any brake dust. I would highly recommend them.
I can go 2 -3 weeks easily before the wheels start getting slightly darker. And, almost no difference in color from front to back.

Default Had the same problem on my XF-SC

Had the same issue on my 2011- XF SC.. I did an entire step by step instruction in the XF "HOW TO SECTION" on how to change over to ceramics.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...job-how-85582/

The results are fantastic. No real dust issue anymore! I used ceramic pads from Brake Labs and they worked perfectly for $116 for 4 wheels. They have a set for the XJ, which has smaller rotors and calipers for about $90. for four wheels. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Front-Rear-S...dc8174&vxp=mtr

My 2012 XJL Portfolio doesn't have the dust issue with the OEM, so I'm assuming they switched to ceramic for my model.

Default Keep Clean Wheel

I've had luck with Keep Clean Wheel (strange name I know). It can be picked up at various autoparts stores. You spray it on your wheels, it creates a slippery like film that keeps the brake dust off. I say it lasts about a couple of weeks. Not a permanent solution, just helps you keep that car wash and clean wheels lasting a little longer.

Not so great for any wheels with a chrome, or polished lip. I find on chrome lips it tends to leave a hazy residue.
