Dangerous gearbox and engine shutdown on the move.
2012 V8 SC, done 90T km, dangerous on the move shutdown with resultant brake and steering unassisted
My full symptoms were
1. Rough running initially
2. Jumping out of gear coming up to lights
3. Progressing to full engine shutdown on a slow move say 30-40kmph. The problem was a worn a ngine mounts. Because I drive it hard(I have an SLS Roadster that I truly cane) the engine was moving, an air hose was pulled off as a result. I thought it may have been the gearbox which, given I have just replaced the SLS gearbox for about US$25T, I was pretty unhappy about.

3. Progressing to engine shutdown on a slow move say 30-40kmph.
But nope 1 worn engine mount did all of it.
My local Jaguar dealer diagnosed it. I was pretty impressed. But they can't get a mount for 4 weeks. I did a bunch of planned work for my first service of the ownership. I see I can buy mounts quicker than them. Are there two mounts(left and right) and are they the same part nos? Is there any better after market option?

So I have replaced both engine mounts. I sourced the mounts away from Jaquar only because they couldn't source for a few weeks. I elected to replace both. On replacement one was gone, the second was on its way. FYI to other users, this was at 95T km or 56T miles. The other interesting thing is that they had XC70( that's right Volvo) stamped on the replacements. I wonder how many other parts are like that. We should build a parts lists on a sticky thread maybe.

Could be a useful reminder to others to check such things at least annually - and be aware that rough running / jumping out of gear are potentially BIG warnings.
At 10+ years lots of things are getting tired, at the least. Oxygen & heat cycling regardless of miles - but those as well.

If replacing engine mount consider doing the transmission mount as well. They are all part of a system to dampen vibrations. Plus compared to the engine mounts replacing the transmission mount is very simple.
