OP - any update on if "the authorities" have been able to find the truck that hit you?
I'm still hoping they did/do, and their insurance (or them out-of-pocket) gets it repaired.
Myself, I probably wouldn't file a claim to my insurance for it.
When my wife's was hit, I initially expected to get it repaired myself, but the truck that hit it had Geico, and they were okay to work with.
Which is why I still have a good used front left fender I bought that I ended up not using.
I never heard back from the the cops on it, insurance paid out, and i got my car back from the body shop looking pristine last week... with a SRS pressure sensor error I am now trying to solve.

That's good to read. Back in the saddle again.
Hopefully the SRS problem will be a non-issue.
It may be worth considering getting a dash cam or GO Pro for the front & back to ward off the likelyhood of it happening again. I got one for my wife's XJ after we were broadsided. Most dash cams available have sensors to record & save video while parked for parking lot impacts. And many have wide angles of view to help cover side activities too. And for power (since the XJs are so battery power-sensitive) there are there are some that can be powered by a stand-alone L-Ion battery made just for providing power when the ignition is off.

I have Aukey DR02 dual dashcam with external LiFePo 8400mAh 4S battery powering it. (RC-battery type) LiFePo batt is hidden on dash and connected to the vehicle circuit with diode for charging, but not giving any power for the vehicle. (LiFePo natural voltage is higher than std leadacid battery, so it will empty itself without diode)
LiFePo instead of Li-Ion or LiPo, because LiFePo is much calmer fellow in case of short circuit or shock, plus safe charging don´t need cell level balancing.

Unfortynally these seems to be discontinued:
Hobbyking LiFePO

Did bit research and it seems like RC-hobbyist have turned to LiPo, what is not suitable to add an vehicle directly, because LiPo needs an cell level controlled charcing.
I found that there are an LiFePo motorcycle batterys, with inbuild BMS:

Maybe bit more difficult to find place for it, but if you go to 4Ah model it will give you quite long running time for dashcam and its small size. Don´t forget the diode. You don´t want LiFePo to feed your vehicle and ofcource alwys add an fuse next to the battery. (these small baterys have quite bunch of power)

I agree!

And at least it was repairable.

A number of years ago, my wife got hit from behind while stopped for a red light, while in her 2012 XJ-L. The damage estimate was $38,500, so naturally, it was totaled. Sad ending for a great car.
