Flashing sidelights when ignition is off
I was in my kitchen earlier on and noticed that the sidelights on my 2014 XJL were intermittently flashing on and off.
It was around dusk, and the lights were in the Auto position, but the ignition was off. The car was unlocked at the time, so I locked it and the behavior continued.
After going out to the car and turning the lights to the "off" position, the flashing stopped. There was no noticeable rhythm or pattern to the lights (the eyebrow/sidelights) going on and off.
Any thoughts on what might have been happening? Has this been seen before?
Thanks,
M

Mongoose, was the keyfob in your pocket by chance? I have seen where the keyfob has reached a condition where the buttons are being depressed on the keyfob and this is causing the doors to lock and unlock by simply moving around. It may have stopped when you flipped the headlight switch simply because the keyfob moved in your pocket and was no longer having its buttons pushed.
I have also seen this with a roommate that liked to play practical jokes.
After that, not sure what to tell you. Unless the module controlling the lights is starting to go, this is going to be an interesting one.

I'd try a new battery in the remote first. Mine uses a 2032 battery. I also keep them in a steel can so nobody can use a repeater on them. After that I'd look at the car's battery in the trunk.
It was C2Z5018 for me, although I understand there are a number of variants. I took a chance on a used part first, which worked. Price was around $90.
The part number seems to have changed now to C2D53495. I got mine new for $315 by price-matching Carlsbad Jaguar (actually $261 at Carlsbad Jaguar, but I saved $30-$45 on shipping costs by buying from local dealer). The dealer initially wanted >$400 initially, so I'm glad I asked about price-matching. Unfortunately my Jaguar is my daily driver so I couldn't wait for a used part to be shipped.
From my research it seems like a lot of flashing headlight issues are due to a faulty headlight/indicator stalk. I had my headlights flashing while driving (intermittently). Initially it was just in auto mode, but then eventually it happened in manual mode too. Glad I didn't change the ambient light sensor first.
Interesting to note that when I removed the stalk to replace it with a new one (the car was off and the headlights were set to off before removing the stalk), the car alerted me that the headlights were now on. The front headlights were off but the rear headlights were now on. This error went away once I put in the new part. Strange.
