Front passenger speaker
Team Jag,
Recently drove home with my newly acquired 2011 xjl and there was some pretty serious rattling coming from a speaker in the front Passenger door. When I got home and tried to reproduce, as the car was sitting in the garage, everything sounded great. My initial assumption is obviously something is loose, But I'd like to hear if anyone has encountered a similar experience before I take the Door panel off.
thanks,
Matt

FLSupersport, if you look in through the grill, you may see a small circle loose inside there. What we have found happens is there is a dust cover for the speaker that will come loose and fall off and get between the speaker and the door panel and cause the noise that you are hearing. Unfortunately, you do have to remove the door panel. But, you can either remove the dust cover (has minimal effect on sound quality) or you can use a small amount of superglue and glue the cover back on. It goes in the very center of the speaker.
While you have the door card off, you may want to also check that all your wires are clipped properly into their harnesses and perhaps even wrap them with some felt tape. I’ve read in multiple threads that some of the bundled wires behind the door card will eventually separate from each other, knock around, and start make rattling noises.
I have been meaning to get behind mine for a couple months now, but keep finding other projects to do first.

I have exactly the same issue that the OP described. If anyone is removing their door card, please post some pictures of where the clips and screws are. At one point, I did see a diagram for removing the door card, but I cannot recall where that was.
There is a sticky on removing the door card on the other jaguarforum (singular) website. They specifically cover the x351. Though I have not tried to follow it yet.

Brilliant. Thank you very much. Exactly what I (and presumably the OP) needed. It does look like rather a tedious procedure, but easy enough to do.
I followed the procedures that were posted here. Took me all of 1.5hours to take apart and reassemble with a new woofer in the drivers side door. No more rattle, so definitely worth a try. I have a 2012 XJL with the B&W system. I bought a plastic tool set for popping off the door card, picked it up from Amazon, KINGLAKE Auto Door Clip Panel Trim Removal Tool Kits for Car Dash Radio Audio Installer Pry Tool 4Pcs.

thanks for the responses folks. I haven’t torn it apart yet. I’ve just been noticing how inconsistent it is. That does lead me to believe that it’s some type of external thing and not the speaker itself. I’ll probably dig into it this weekend and let you guys know what I find.
