Default Fuel sender unit

Hi all,
I am just out of the main dealer. Various problems noted but I have brought the car home. I have been recommended to change the fuel sender unit as the water in fuel light keeps coming on and the car struggles to start. They will recommend a fuel drain if this doesn’t resolve the problem.
I was told to change the battery as there is a drain somewhere and they can’t look properly without a fully fit battery. This battery is 1 year old from Tayna. They have found a rod that is meant to touch the side of the car, has snapped off and they have done a temporary repair but said there are 3 in total and the other 2 are badly corroded also. They could get the parts in the new year.
The infotainment system has a major fault and they are saying the ACM (audio connectivity module) is damaged. No bluetooth, sat nav, tv’s etc… We do have dab. A replacement part is roughly £3k plus fitting.
Any ideas or suggestions welcome!
My main hope is that it gets stolen!!!

With the ignition in the OFF position for a minimum of 30 minutes, use a voltmeter to read the available voltage across the battery terminals. There should be at least 12.6 volts showing on the voltmeter, if not, charge the battery for five hours at 2 to 5 amps and retest. If the voltmeter still indicates less than 12.6 volts the battery is suspect.

There needs to be 12.6 volts available for all modules to function correctly.

Hi,
The battery is holding less charge than that, so I will send it to Tayna for a warranty claim.
The car is a Jaguar XJL 3.0d x351.

OK and your in the UK. The US did not get any Diesels so we have no experience with them.
Have you tried the UK Jaguar forum? Many Diesels over there.

Hmmm... Not sure how skillfull your dealer are..?

The fuel filter works as a water separator on 3.0d and bottom of is an water sensor. Fuel filter are located on far right corner of the engine bay. (looked front) Four hoses on top and sensor on botton. Easy to change. There are reported some issues of the failed wires of the sensor, caused by mechanic who have not been aware of the sensor and pulled the filter upwards hard without removing the connector first. Dodge repairs of wires cause then false alarms. I recommend to change the filter and pour diesel from old one to the glass and check for water once its settled against light. (Use good quality filter to protect your high pressure pump and injectors. Meyle is OEM brand) Prime the fuel system after filter change by turning ign on 4-5 times without cranking the engine. ie, keep your foot off from brake pedal and wait 5-10sek each time to keep fuel pump running and priming the filter)
Water on fuel for sure is dangerous for diesel engine. Fuel do lubricate high pressure fuel pump and injectors. Water (or gasoline) do not lubricate and damage will occur. (fuel sender unit is located on fuel tank)

They have found a rod that is meant to touch the side of the car, has snapped off and they have done a temporary repair but said there are 3 in total and the other 2 are badly corroded also
This is extremely interesting what they mean by rod meant to touch side of the car? The x351 have fully alumium body. Corrosion can happen but far less than steel body. Never seen or hear these kind of three rods ...

What manufacturing year your XJ are? Do you know the history of the car? (acident, flood?)

For audio i would 1st check all the fuses from central junction box behind of the rear seat arm rest. If some device is blown, you can find an replacement by easy from eBay and change it yourself. Cost would be 10th of dealer price. (and by your writing i dont trust your dealer...)
I highly recommend you to download x351 Service and Repair manual from sticky section of this forum. It have everything you need to know and much more.
