Default I Threw My Timing Changing My Drive Belt. Anyone Rebuilt their 5.0?

Well apparently these engines can't be wound backward which I must have done undoing the fan from the clutch. Would have been nice to know, but here we are. Misfires and timing codes and sounds awful and can't be wound manually.

Im assuming piston heads are dented and valves bent.

I see that valves are available on Amazon and euroamp sells a set of pistons

If I recall, these engines were never able to be rebuilt because Jaguar never made internals for it. Has that changed?

Supercharged 5.0

I am sorry to hear that. This is a great warning to other DIYers.

How much did you turn it backwards?

It can't have been much as I was just trying to get a grip on the fan clutch pulley. Apparently this engine does not like being turned backwards at all

The fan is electric? Why did you need to turn the engine at all?

You need to remove the fan to get to the drive belt

My 2014 RRS has a fan mounted to the pulley, but my old 2011 XF and current 2019 XJL have electric fans. Can you post a picture of your fan assembly?

Yes that Dave Tibbs thread is a real classic!
Amazing amount of work and Dave sure was not afraid to tackle anything!
I learned a lot about the 5.0L engine.

I've got a 5.0l I'm going to be pulling in the next week hopefully if you would rather just put that in and rebuild yours over time.

What happened? You turned the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise while changing the drivebelt ??

Oof, sorry to hear of your trouble. If you need pistons I think Mahle can ship you direct, others have called and reference David Tibbs' order.

Or, if you don't want to deal with it. I'm prepping my XJL for sale at a competitive price (PM if interested). Less than a used motor installed at least.
