Default Instrument Panel Menu - Service Option

I'm still learning about the 2016 XJL - amber engine/trans icon came on today so I wanted to check engine oil level. Found info in manual but am totally confused.

Instrument panel menu section says "Service - displays with ignition on & engine running". When I scroll thru the menus, Service does NOT appear - all the other menus are displayed with engine running.

However in the Fluid Level Check section of the manual it says "switch on ignition (do not start engine) ". How do I switch on ignition - there is no key only the pushbutton? Without engine running there is no Instrument Panel Menu.

Bottom line - how do I check engine oil level?

TIA, Joe

With your foot off the brake pedal, push the ignition button until the instrument cluster comes on, the scroll to the menu for checking the engine oil level.

Yes, the manual is not very clear about how to turn on the ignition without starting the engine. It is not intuitive to push the start button without pressing the brake pedal to achieve this and the manual should make this clear but doesn't.

Default Check Engine Oil

I found this thread useful, but don't understand the action of hitting the cancel cruise control twice.

That's only if you are in the service menu and want a "live" oil level reading with the engine running. The normal service to check static oil level is done with the engine on but not running as posted above.
Not sure why you would want a live oil level reading but it is available.
