Default Will the car run without the instrument panel?

Hi all, please help me.

I have an 89 XJS 3.6.

it has developed a noise from begin or inside the instrument panel on acceleration, not a classic vibration of panels as such, but one that is hard to explain.

I want to remove the instrument panel and drive it to see if I can locate the noise, or see if it’s the instrument panel itself, but don’t want to do any harm by starting it and running it without it in the car.

Thanks

Marc

Providing you have factory gauges and no capillary it will. It will, or mine did.

Thanks for that, I will give it a try.

anyone got any idea what the whirring noise might be?? If it was a mechanical speedo I would have been looking at that first but it’s not........

Yeah I was gonna say my 80 malibu did that, but yeah it was a mechanical speedo cable. Could it be your speedometer or tachometer itself?

BE CAREFUL!

do not let the plugs for the instrument panel touch any metal part.

There are unfused, hair thin wires, and they will let all the magic Lucas out.
