Jaguar XJ (2013) - Velocity AP ECU Flash
Hello there! I hope you've had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! Lots to be Thankful and Grateful for this year!
I recently bought a Jaguar XJ from 2013 with 340 hp. I have done quite a bit of research and found out that the 3.0 supercharged engine comes in 3 varieties. 340 hp, 380hp, and 400 hp. Most of the 380 and 400 at the F-Type and the XF, however it is the same engine. The difference is a different software upgrade or update essentially. Furthering my research, I found an organization called Velocity AP. They do ECU flashes, pulley+flash tune, etc. Velocity AP claims that the ECU flash is nothing more than a software upgrade/update and it'll present about 70-75hp and about 25/tq. Going the pulley route, depending if it is just the lower pulley or both will present somewhere around 115hp/50tq or close there of.
Is there anyone here with an XJ that has done a Velocity AP ECU flash? If so, may I kindly ask 4 questions:
1. How long have you had it on the vehicle?
2. Is there a noticeable difference in the mid-range, from 2,000-5,000 RPM?
3. Does the gas pedal respond better?
3. Have you had any problems?
Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate it.
My kindest regards,
- J

Hi V8 Supercharged in mine.
Added the VAP ecu for stage 2 tune, 200 cell cats and downpipes, oversize crank pulley when i bought mine at just under 60,000 kms.
Never had ANY issue after nearly 5 years installed.
Re install the original ecu file BEFORE you take it in for sevice and are unsure if an OBD will be plugged in or it will possibly destroy the ECU.
Mine never has given a warning of Supercharger over pressure or fault, the only code that ever comes is from the Cat converters efficiency lol because they are only 200 cell count.
As far as pedal resonse, well more air from the charger and a better tune profile equates to better pedal resonse yes, but if not in performance mode( RED DASH LIGHTS) then you have a little more air which the ECU deals with but never has given me any issue whatsoever, which also translates to a little better on pedal resonse, but i have V8 so unsure how it affects a V6. Definitive change in performance from around 2000 rpm up to practical and usable rpm for gear used.
Based on my experience only i can recommend VAP, only glitch is when setting cruise control the green tab on the speedo will ALWAYS be set around 5kph LOWER than your actual speed, its unavoidable on the Denso ECU, not sure about the Bosch ecu.

I would go with VAP. I have their tune and lower pulley and it flat works!
Many, many happy customers on the forum. I"think" you might have just missed their year end sale too?
That's when I got my stuff. 3+ years and no problems so far.

@Lightspeed thank you for your thoughts. Much appreciated.
@clubairth1 a few questions for you if I may:
1. Which vehicle do you have the VAP on?
2. Which engine do you have?
3. How many miles on the car when you installed it?
4. How many total miles have you driven the can with the tune on?
Thank you very much for your time.

I have a 2014 XJR with the 5.0L SC engine. I had about 37K miles when installed the pulley and tune and I am almost at 60K miles now.
No problems and looking to go with the upper pulley and bigger blower and/or Meth injection. But am happy where it's at for now.

Yep, when I bought my tune many years ago it was some $900 feeble Oz dollars and the price has gone up a LOT since then.
I didn't buy a VAP pulley, I bought a Eurotoys pulley instead coz it was on special and going much cheaper than the VAP pulley (about half the price) and it's an almost identical pulley, same size/dimensions/weight/material, so consider getting a Eurotoys pulley instead. They were also great to deal with but so are VAP!
One thing to watch out for with both pulleys is there are two different versions of the OEM pulley and hence two different versions of the larger/upgraded pulley - the earlier OEM version is silver in colour (with a back rubber strip in the middle) while the later version is completely black, and you need the correct upgrade version. The two different versions are NOT compatible with each other as they have different offsets (from the crank) and this effects the belt fitment. On the VAP site at least when you click through the options/choices one of them is "silver or black OEM pulley" so make sure you know which one you have before you order/buy a new pulley. If you go with a Eurotoys pulley instead they may or may not have the same option on their web site but if not easy enough to check with them first. On the F-Type at least the changeover was apparently some time in 2016 so it was probably the same for the XJ.
