Keys locking in car - watch out.
Whoa, I better correct you before pwl jumps in--the CLS trunk is 0.1 cubic foot larger which is about 173 cubic inches or about the size of a cantelope. Got the XJ beat by a mile.
Also from personal experience the trunk in the CLS is a little longer but it is smaller vertically. I don't know how many times I've bought things and they wouldn't fit even in the CLS opening to the trunk. That's probably why these other CLS copiers have hatchbacks. Yuck!
This is why I like Jaguar Forums.com.
Great entertainment and a few laughs for the day.
"man locks Jaguar keys in boot - sells Jaguar and buys a Mercedes".

Time to MAN UP.

A buddy of mine is a Corvette nut and he says there are periodically threads on the Corvette forum with the same issue--"I put my key in my gym bag and threw it into the rear hatch and closed it and now I'm locked out of the car". Duh! Don't do that.
This is probably going off topic but corvettes have a whole set of other problems with door locks. Their locks are electronic and if the battery is low, you can't open the door normally. There are stories of people getting locked *inside* the car and calling 911 because they didn't read the manual and were unaware of the manual emergency door release on the floor / bottom of the seat.

I don't know how mercs work with their keyless entry systems, but at least on my LS460 I can't lock the car if the keyfob is forgotten inside the car. If I try, the car issues a long warning beep and doesn't lock itself. And if the key is inside the trunk and I close the trunk lid, I can still open the trunk fine, using the button on the lid, because the car just won't lock. I don't know how this works, and escapes me why the XJ doesn't work the same way. But hey I agree, this is a minor issue and I don't think is a deal breaker for the car. Perhaps the sluggish center control stack and its complete lack of intuitiveness can be a deal breaker, but overall I still think the new XJ is a good car, and I still don't own one, but if the 2012 or 2013 models have the pesky issues resolved, I might join the club.
I actually intentionally tried putting a key in the trunk today and the car didn't like it. :-) I had my 2nd set of keys in my briefcase and put it in the trunk and closed it. I had my primary set of keys in my pocket and started the car. As soon as I did, a warning message appeared in the dash saying the trunk was open (even though it wasn't). Not quite the message I expected but the message wouldn't go away until I took the keys out of the trunk.
So, the car does detect when keys are left in the car, just not in the way you would expect.
