Can one make the navigation repeat its instructions to you?

In other cars you can just push/click on a 'repeat' button and the words from the navigation will repeat.

 

I still can't get mine to auto speak the directions. It is only audible if you push the speaker button on the screen, but isn't automatic?

 

Ok Phillys1, I'll go out to the car today and look for the speaker button on the screen to push/touch.

Mine gives instructions when an 'event' is about to happen, but sometimes I'm distracted by something else and don't clearly hear the command, so I wanted to hear it again.

When I bought mine the dealer put my home address in it. So it told me how to go home. For the next three times I left the house it kept telling me to make a u-turn at the next intersection and go back home. After that it stopped. It would announce each intersection at 1/2 mile then at 700 ft and then tell me to make a u-turn now.

Eventually, I'll start using it normally but for now since it shut up I've left it alone.

 

No problem with my SatNav, a delightful and intuitive system.
Have you cancelled the audio guidance?

 

I can't even find the button to turn off the radio yet. I just turn the volume down until I can't hear it anymore.

 

Yes there is no "mute" button for the radio.
Another quirk of the XJ. I was told to use the small knob on the dash and push it in for off or rotate it to turn down the volume.

So just push in on the button your turning down.

Seems like an odd omission as EVERY car I have had with steering wheel controls has a mute button.

You can operate many of the cars commands by pressing the listening button on your steering wheel and then select whichever option you need.
An Example.
Press the bottom left listening button and a display of options will appear on your dashboard.
From the selection. Speak Navigation
Say Address
It will ask you next for the town name.


You should be able to work out what to do next from here on, but, if it’s still a mystery to you I suggest you do a YouTube search and follow the guidance there.

Original poster here: I've a 2017 and have found out today, that in order to get the Nav Girl to repeat, you go to the split Nav screen and touch the GREEN bar above the place where 'the next significant event' is shown ...as in 'the next place to turn".

There is no 'speaker' icon on the 2017 model, to get the Nav Girl to repeat her command. Thanks anyway.
