This is my 2nd Jag (2013 XJ 5.0 SC), and I'm somewhat handy with a wrench.
I was tired of the "low battery" warning everytime I the car was not running (on but not running). So i decided to get an aftermarket battery (at spec or better) and swap out with the original. Now the original was somewhat fine and I used the ctek charger to keep its life a little longer, but I had time over the weekend and figured i swap.
So I swap out the battery (pretty simple) but now i get absolutely no power to anything in the car. I even replaced the original battery back and still nothing. I'm at a loss on what to do next. Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
Assuming that you've checked all cables, connections and fuses, I'd recommend scanning for DTCs.
Assording to the shop manual, "The Battery Monitoring System control module must be reset following the installation of a new battery. The BMS control module reset procedure must be performed using an approved diagnostic tool."
Multimeter is the key for finding out how far power goes from battery terminal. Propably one of the big fuses have been failed.
Check one more time that you had terminals + and - right way around.
Battery low notification come out quite fast on any modern vehicle because when power is On and engine not running, the vehicle can take 20-30Ah. Battery Monitoring system try to warn owner not to run battery on the point of no start.
so there was a black wire (the main ground) that musta fell off when i was unhooking the battery. I added it back and the thing started with no problems
So where did you buy replacement battery?
Cost?
Thanks,
There is nothing exotic about the proper battery for the 2013 XJ - just make sure it's an Absorbed Glass Mat battery. I recommend this Interstate Battery from Costco:
P.S. There is no need to reset the BMS module, as it will reset itself after driving the car for a while. I keep mine on a CTEK battery maintainer because I don't drive enough for the alternator to keep the battery fully charged.

Reason: Added P.S.
I like and use the Walmart version as it's $10 more expensive ($179) and has 1 additional year of warranty.
I can't complain as my factory battery lasted over 10 years! Let's hope these after market batteries last as long.
As Stuart posted above I have not reset my BMS either. I do have a working SDD but since it auto calibrates itself over time I just don't bother.

Wow. My 2019 is now 5 years old, & was thinking about pro-actively replacing the battery, although it still starts & works great. Just can't seem to find the right replacement part # yet, until now. Thanks for sugg at Costco & Walmart above.
So instead of having battery replaced at Jaguar dealer for almost $500, Walmart & Costco will/can install battery also...?
Thanks,
If you allow it Walmart will?
After many years and many things like this I don't allow anyone to touch my car anymore. Including numpties at auto parts stores or Costco or Walmart.
Same as changing oil I use those things as a reason to inspect that part of my car. Things like corrosion in the trunk. The condition of the Start/Stop battery. Any signs of water?
