While parking and preparing to exit the car (2019 XJL Collection), my wife opened the passenger door for about 2 seconds, then closed the door softly. I assumed the soft close doors would complete the latch. Something happened and now the door will not open from inside or outside. I tried locking and and unlocking the door using the keyfob and the buttons on the door with no luck. I let it sit for an hour or so, hoping it was an electronic issues that would clear up upon restart.
No luck. Is there a way to reset the locking system?
All suggestions welcome.

 

Latch defect is not unlikely. On pre-facelift models the typical failure mode is a weak locking mechanism. Meaning a repeated locking or unlocking with the keyfob finally manages to move the failing door lock into the desired state. I don't know if the softclose door locks fail in a similar manner.

 

Did you get to the bottom of this? Ive just had same, my lad closed the door very softly, the car said door was open but now it won't open inside or out.
