Default Passenger side hood latch will not release...help!

I have a 2011 XJ Supersport, and I went to raise the hood to add washer fluid yesterday, but the right side latch will not release... I have removed the right front wheel and fender liner, but I see no way to get to the latch so far...I've also removed the handle pull on the inside to see if I could get some extra pull on the cable itself, but no luck there as well...appreciate any help please!

Thanks...James

Look on XF forum X250. Someone had the same problem. His solution was to cut a hole in the hood to get to the latch. Ouch...
But - someone posted a video showing a much less destructive way using a long screwdriver like implement. Different car, but prob a similar approach.

Try pressing on the hood and rapidly removing your hands, be careful not to do it hard enough to dent the aluminum panel. At the edge is the strongest. Shooting some wd40 in the area and repeating the movement might help to release and allow the cable to losen.

Well dang, I'm having the same issue as well.
I've tried pushing down on the hood while the wife pulled the release to no avail. I'm guessing the cable is broken at the driver side latch. Driver side latch releases every time. Looking at this pic I think the only way to get it release is to attack it is from underneath. I'm going to remove the front splash guard and see if I can get to it.
Anyone know if its accessible from below?

Yes I usually get to the latches from underneath the car. Remove the belly pan and probably some other covers so you can get a long screw driver/pry bar up under the latch as shown above. If the cable is not broken I can sometimes pull on the release cable from under the car to release the latch.

Be sure and post back how you fixed it too!

Removed the front skid plate this morning and the latch is easily accessible with a long screwdriver. Hood released when pushed from below.
Now on to trying to figure out why the latch is not releasing. The cable is actuating freely at both latches and is not bound at all. The hood bracket was a bit loose but tightening the nut did not help.

It's always nice when a repair is simply putting something back in its proper place!
Turns out the cable housing grommet (not sure what to call it) on the driver side had come off the carrier on the bottom of the latch. All that's required is to get to the the bottom of the latch and push it back on.
I had to unbolt the passenger side latch and drop it down to get some slack in the cable housing to make it work for me.
Buttoned everything up and now I can get back to obsessing about my coolant levels.

Hey great repair and post!
Thanks for adding the solution as this has only come up one or two times before and no one had any answers.
