Default Pieces between roof and trunk (boot)...

Have any of you had the pieces between the roof and the trunk painted the same color as the car?

We are considering doing this. The black pieces (at times) seem to be an afterthought. We are thinking that if they are painted it will make the line of the car much smoother as the eye comes down from the roof.

Thoughts?

Expatjag has had this done to his car. I think it looks better than the black.

I seem to be among the "minority" that likes the contrasting C-pillar styling. I have the Cashmere exterior and the black pillar looks good, I do not think it takes anything away from making the car look long and sleek. Today I am driving a brand new loaner short wheel base XJ and I really miss that extra few inches of length when it comes to looks. However, I definitely feel that the short wheelbase car is more agile in its handling.

This car has the V6 and, while I love the V8, I would have a really hard time to fault the V6 in any ways. Feels just as powerful as the V8, good throttle response, no delay in the full acceleration that I found with a loner XF. Gas mileage is a full 5-6 MPG better than my 2012 V8. Much of that is likely from the 8sp transmission but, still, the V6 is very impressive in the car. On level roads at 70 MPH the instantaneous MPG read often swings over 40 MPG. That is nothing short of amazing for this size car.

I guess you can add to me to the minority claque as well, i am huge fan of black C pillars.

Ian is very good at manipulating illusions. The black C pillars visually give the car extra width from the rear.

I too like them on my white XJL. My only issue is that they scratch too easily. Mine have major swirls in them. Does anyone have any hints on how to get rid of them? Plastic polish doesn't seem to work.

Treat it like you would the rest of the car - a good buffing with a mechanical buffer does the trick.

Part of the reason is that most polishes and waxes are light colored, cream etc. (never understood that) Applying on dark surfaces by hand will only make the scratches more visible.

Have you tried Turtle Black Color Wax? turtle black color wax - Yahoo! Search Results

That's all i use on my Midnight Black XF. It does pretty good job of covering it. It doesn't last very long, depending on number of washes. But, should be good for 8 weeks.

I'd have to be very careful not to get black wax on the white panels!

Yep. Just put a small piece of tap both at the top and the bottom if you have to.
