Does anyone know where I can get instructions on replacing the alternator on my 2013 xj? The manual I downloaded from tradebit doesn’t cover it as far as I can tell. Would the topix subscription service include this? Any tips would be most appreciated.
Go to https://www.alldatadiy.com/ and subscribe for your XJ. I've used this site for all my cars and it's been worth it. I checked and it does cover the R&R of the alternator and the part #. Be aware that the Alternator is made by Denso and doing a search with the Jaguar # will also show the Denso. Jag wants @ $800 and the same part from Denso is @ $350. Good luck.
I'm subscribed to the 2014 Jaguar XJ RWD (X351) V8-5.0L SC edition as when I first subscribed they only had 2012 and it missed a lot of items and repair details. See if they will switch you to my version.
hy guys.
i want to change the alternator for my 2010 x351 3.0 diesel
i dont know whats on the car. but i already bought a pretty good sh one.
questions is…..the one i got is a 18 v , and i saw that there are 12 volt also of course. the 18 volt is coming of a range 3.0d . i looked for my car and i found 12 and 18 v as suitable for my xj. and a lot of sh sellers sell 12 and 18 v alternators for the same care engine.
is there a problem if i mount the 18 volts and the old one was 12?? is it better? maybe the old one is 18 and its ok……but if its not? would really be coool to have the wright alternator at the shop when i go to replace it.

danu99, I would not/can not recommend the 18V alternator. I say this for 2 reasons. The bigger one is that if they are telling the truth about the output of the alternator, then this is most likely going ot damage your electrical system as this is too much voltage for your car. The second being that if a company has to have a "bigger number" for its output, then they are lying about other things and that makes me want to take that part and throw it right in the trash as it is worth about that much. Working in the power generation field and a long time automotive guy, all cars (with minor exceptions) run on 12 volts. This means that the output of the alternator is going to vary between 0 volts and upwards of 15.5 volts (depending on amperage draw and amount of voltage supplied to the field). Most alternators are set up to output 13.7 volts (not 12). Even big personal trucks that run diesel engines (Ford F-350's, Chevy/Dodge 3500's, etc) are still 12 volt systems. You start getting into semi trucks/lories, then you are talking a different beast and those have their own little world of what they run on. Some are 18, some 24, some are 48. But, I digress.
The best approach to issues with alternator charging is to remove the unit from the vehicle and have a competent automotive electrical specialist overhaul it. This serves two purposes: it's going to fit the vehicle, and there won't be warning light showing up on the instrument cluster.
I’m not sure why you’re struggling with AllData. Granted I have a 2015 but I would assume that it’s same for most of the years.
Either way, sometimes the difficulty is finding out what they called X part in AllData. When I searched “alternator” I was easy able to locate what’s required.
