Default Spy Shots: New Jaguar XJ's Final Testing

The Jaguar XJ was introduced in 2009, so the company is preparing a minor facelift for their flagship sedan. Caught undergoing final tests in the UK, the prototype has been equipped with modified bumpers, a revised grille and full-LED-beams, together with new light graphics at the front and rear lights. There doesn't appear to be any other changes, but we wouldn't be surprised if the production model had some additional tweaks. Most engine options will likely carryover and extended by a Plug-In hybrid-version, as previewed by the Jaguar XJ E concept in 2012. Expect the updated XJ to be introduced on the Paris motor show this Fall.

What do you think of this near-final design?

Looks like a minor cosmetic upgrade. Nothing wrong with that, the XJ(L) looked great to begin with and is hard to improve on when it comes to looks. The black bumpers and rear light covers appear to be masks.

I hope the black on the bumpers are just masks...looks weird. Bumpers should be body color

I like it all, but i have to wonder what is up with the taillights that wrap up and over on to the trunk? I guess I don't understand that thought process. Chop off the bit that sticks straight up and put some sheet metal there. Granted, since I am on the subject of the tail lights, to me it looks like the tail lights are being pushed into the center of the car. Push them out to the sides a bit more. Give the car more of a "wide and low" look. But, that is a personal preference thing too.

The size and shape of the taillights look the same as the current model. I assume the only change is the light pattern within the taillight.

It would appear the changes are very minor indeed. It would be nice if the current signature lights inside the headlight housings were increased in brightness to become honest daytime driving lights; otherwise the XJ's current styling and lighting is superb, and shouldn't be changed to resemble Audi's Christmas lighting theme.

I'm glad they're not doing anything radical here, because I want to buy a 2011 model next year and I'd like it to be the latest model!

I saw one of those on the way home last night, albeit with the checked camouflage wrapping on the rear end. It was very quiet, but that was probably because it had broken down

Looks like it has daytime running LEDs similar to the XF. I'm already wondering if they can be retrofitted to the earlier model. :-)

I went by my Dealer on Friday and they had a 2015 XJ Portfolio V6 on the lot and it had no visible changes from the 2014 model year.
