State Car Inspection Question
Gentlemen, I'm coming up on my biennial date for a car inspection as required here in Maryland and I have my stop/start permanently disabled. Is there any reason to think that this will negatively impact the inspection? The inspection is about emissions but I'm concerned their tool can read this disconnect as altering the system. Should I reconnect the auxiliary battery just to make sure? Do you Maryland guys have experience regarding this?
Freddy, I would try passing it without reconnecting. Worst case, the fix is a 5 minute reconnecting of a battery terminal correct? If so, you have them fail you, you pull into the parking lot, reconnect the battery terminal, then try again. The start/stop feature is about emissions (reducing stopped/idle emissions). Most stations will not recharge you for the second inspection if you come back repaired in say a week or something of the like.

Thermo, I'll make you laugh. It's actually about 3 seconds to reconnect the little battery. I had installed a battery switch on the ground lead just in case I wanted to reconnect it. I wanted to avoid the inconvenience emptying the trunk and taking out the WeatherTech trunk liner. I'm just being lazy and want to know if anyone had experienced the inspection with stop/start disabled. Thank you for the invite once again.
Maryland vehicle emission inspections are required to be performed every other year at dedicated Maryland Department of Transportation inspection facilities not dealerships. So, it may not be the same. I was looking for experience in Maryland. Thanks, though.
I played it safe and reconnected the auxiliary battery for the Stop/Start just for the State Inspection. I didn't want to take a chance on their test detecting any fault in the system. Of course, the XJ passed.

Freddy, need to get out of the big cities. Down south where I am, we have a "one and done" safety inspection. You get it done when you buy the car and you never go back. Granted, go over 1 county, you have to do it every 2 years. So, come on down to SOMD.

Thermo, I never knew there were MD counties that deviated from the every two year Maryland emissions test! I'll bet St. Mary's County has a heck of lot less nuisance tariffs that us folks up here in the high rent part of the state have.
Stuart S, the aux battery had enough juice to activate the stop/start just once. However, as you know, there are about a dozen inhibits that preclude it from operating not just the condition of the battery. I was concerned the test could detect the actual permanent defeat of the circuitry. Lots of things affect the stop/start function and are connected to it.

Freddy, come on down. Enjoy the country life. A traffic jam is when 5 cars are at the same light. LMAO. Not quite that bad, but you get the idea. I have lived in big towns east to west coast and I will take any small town over those. As for what counties have what, it is a hit and miss.
Freddy be aware that Brutral one of our resident Jaguar Master Techs has posted that the entire stop/start system is very troublesome. I did replace my little secondary battery in my 2014 but noticed later that the S/S was not working at all. Hooked up my SDD and found an error that pointed to replacing one of the electrical fuse boxes (There are 3 separate fuse panels in this model of XJ). WAY too much expensive for such a useless feature!
