Sunroof/Sunshade help needed Please????????????
Hi All. It has been a very long time since I have been on here. Used to own 2004 Vanden Plas. Now its a 2011 XJ.
My problem is that my sunroof panel works perfect. However the front sun shade opens/retracts all the way but will not close. When opening the motor will continue to run for 30 secs or so even after the shade is all the way open. You can here the motor gear skipping on the spring gear for the shade.
I have been all over this forum and the internet trying to find a definitive answer as to why this happens. There are posts about exactly this problem that state the motor needs replacing along with the slider blocks. The part numbers for the blocks are C2D30280 and C2D30281. Comments include that a plastic spacer wears out in/on or around the motor. My questions are; is the plastic spacer internal on the motor or external and if external where is it? Also, I cant find/identify the location of the slider blocks spoken of. Can someone please try and explain exactly where these are.
I have removed the motor and inspected it. The gear is fine and tight, the teeth are not worn. It runs rally strong for opening the shade. I am definitely lost on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And my thanks ahead of time for any responses.

I know that you have searched, but could this be your issue (read the thread, particularly xdave's contribution)?

Thanks Christ for that link. That helped some.
I still have a question. What makes the motors that operate the sunshades stop once they have opened the shade fully and then makes them close the shade on the next push of the button? Seems to be there should be some sort micro/limit switch that gets tripped. Is there a switch within te motor assembly itself? Cant find any info on how the electronics actually work. I am trying to determine if I need just a motor replacement or the whole casting assembly as Jaguar calls it.
Thanks again for any info folks.

I know nothing about the X351 sunroof and its operation, but it would be easy for engineers to design a circuit that performs this "alternate action" function without a mechanical switch. When the motor draws enough current to stall and the circuit senses this value and stops flow, the circuit then flips and awaits the next switch input to close /open the shade.
