Default TPMS Issue. Fixed!!!!

Hi All,

I've been having random and sporadic TPMS warnings on the '12 for a few weeks. I initially thought it was the cold weather and just kept an eye on the pressures.

Anyway, yesterday I clipped a curb avoiding a cyclist with a death wish, and tore the sidewall. If I'm honest, the tyres were on the limit, so I wasn't that upset (I was f@^king fuming at the cyclist!!!)

So, I booked the car into 'Discount Tire' and they slapped on 4 new Michelin's, included in the price were 4 new TPMS sensors and calibration. The tech gave me the old sensors back, they had build dates of 09-11 2011 printed on them. I guess that 15 years isn't a bad return.

Great service, all four done in under one hour. TPMS caption is gone....so far!

Wombat, If you don't mind, what Michelins did you get? All season what? Hope the curb didn't bite your wheel. I hate getting rims fixed. Glad your TPMS issue is resolved so easily. Re the tires, I have the older Michelin Pilot Sports now but I'm thinking of getting a softer smoother riding touring tire next time. Anybody have experience with the Michelin Primacy Tour A/S?

Wow 15 years must be a record! The advertised life span is said to be around 7 years. That's about the time I see problems too.

Mine are all still working in my 2011 XJL. I am at about 43K miles now. I suspect mileage/usage is a factor in longevity.

rothwell,

I believe you are correct. The sensors adopt a "Low Power Mode" when the car is stationary, or parked, for any period of time. Mine were at 64k (miles), so just under the 70-100k estimate, but well over the 7-10 years (Google).

I was just surprised that they (the tire company), junked them as soon as they saw the date stamp....kinda glad they did, again zero extra charge. (I'm guessing they hide it in there somewhere!)
