can anyone tell me what is this black rectangular thing (what looks like a sensor) between front and rear sunroofs?

It is the transmitter for the wireless headphones if you have rear entertainment package.

I have rear entertainment, but I don’t have the headphones. Looked up the part, C2D53145, and they are over $200 each. They are listed as whitefire headphones. Does anyone know if the Audiovox ones are compatible?

 

Sorry, I don't know about compatibility, but the Range Rover ones work too. Jaguar/ Land Rover whitefire headphones are always on eBay, often for less than $50.
