Default What should I ask for my '12 modded Supercharged just off warranty?

Just bought myself an F-Type and need to move my XJ short with extras.

35k mi
White / Navy / black walnut
22" Forgiatos ($7500) or 20" Rohanas
de-chromed
Custom paint
blacked out
lighting
pedal set
$20K spent in extras!

What is you're opinion in terms of a fair asking price

Honestly, this Carmax 2012 Jaguar XJ Supercharged is $42k with a few thousand more miles than yours. It's important to remember that Carmax is a bit pricer than traditional dealerships. I'd say for your car, $45k or slightly above.

It sucks to say, but the person looking for an XJ (Of which there's only around 300 sold per month when new including leases) isn't looking for custom paint or $7500 rims. They want it to be as bone stock as possible because they're older men. That's the target demo for this car. You're never going to get back what you have in the car on a car like this. In fact, the mods may make people run away, even though other than the rims I think everything IMO was very tasteful. (I really dig the blacked out bumper on the white and the painted rear arches)

Don't mean any disrespect to you at all!

Unfortunately SovietKitsch is right. There is a very small market for your customized XJ. There is a small percentage of potential car buyers looking for a Jaguar, of which a small percentage are looking for an XJ, of which half are looking for a standard wheelbase, of which a very very small percentage want a modified vehicle. Your best bet is to try to sell as many of your mods to other owners who would give you their stock parts plus cash. You would both be able to sell the car for more and make some money back from the parts as well. Good luck, it looks well cared for!

Comparing the CarMax XJ and the OP's XJ are like comparing apples to oranges. But it's a starting point.

I clicked that link and noted that the CarMax XJ is LWB with the wood tray tables, etc. Assuming all other things being equal, LWB usually commands a higher price than the SWB model due to more space and other standard features not available on the SWB. OP's XJ is SWB.

Also, prices vary by location - the OP is in CA and the CarMax dealer is in Las Vegas. I thought it was odd that the Nav screen showed Baton Rouge, LA, but the AutoCheck Report says it's 1-owner from Baton Rouge and was sold at auction. CarMax apparently sent it to Las Vegas for resale - a much better market to sell an XJ than Baton Rouge.

I agree that some of the mods reduce the market value, and that the OP would be better off to sell the custom rims and put the stock wheels and tires back on. The other mods are mostly cosmetic and might appeal to buyers.

As for what the OP should ask for his XJ, to get the most realistic estimate of market value in your area you should go to your local CarMax dealer and ask them for a written offer. Sure, they'll give you a low-ball wholesale price, but that gives you a starting point from which you can figure out what to ask as a private party seller. Also, see if any Jaguar dealers in your area have anything similar to your car currently for sale, and price yours accordingly.

There is a similar XJ for sale - blacked out, custom wheels + stock wheels, Arden exhaust, factory carbon fiber interior trim, tinted etc. 49,000 miles. $30,000.00. He priced it low thinking it would sell fast. Still on the market a few weeks. When I try to determine a real. Value of something, I look at items that have sold on eBay. Not ended on eBay, but actually sold.

Yes, I've noticed in the past month that prices of XJ's have dropped dramatically, most notably on Kelley blue book. Not sure how accurate they are, but I went from owing $6k less than it was worth to owing $4k more than it is now worth. Very Concerning!!!

Three distinct differences....

Mine is a 2012
Mine is a Supercharged
Mine has less mileage

His is priced right for his car i'd say. I'd say $5k for the year difference alone. When comparing Porsches, you can't compare Turbos with N/A's. This isn't that extreme but just saying.

I think the Supercharged adds around 3-5k, the year difference is around 3-5k and the mileage is probably around the same 3-5k difference too, which puts it around $39k to $45, which is what everyone is saying here.

I'd also add that for me personally, I'd way rather have polarisnavyxj's XJ. The white paint/color combo is far less harsh than that black on black on black on black combo in the CL.

I'm not trying to low ball you, just to inform you mods never pay off. Modding a car is a personal thing, unfortunately at sell time, you take a hit. Dealers will pay less for a car if it has aftermarket rims and such. I know, I found out the hard way when the dealer wouldn't take my SUV in on trade due to an aftermarket exhaust. I personally like the mods that you did.

NO, I appreciate the link and I know that you were trying to lowball me, I was just pointing out the difference between his car and mine which are significant.

Drum roll. What did you end up getting for your cat? The quotes I got for my XJ were downright depressing. $12-13k from Jaguar dealer & $16k CarMax.

P.S. Congrats on the F-Type. Hope to own one in the future.
