I often drive wearing a T shirt and jeans. No place to put the phone except in the jeans pocket... uncomfortable!
I started looking for a solution and finally decided on the ash/coin tray. (I wish it was deeper.) The cellphone tends to fly out on hard cornering. My solution is to put a magnetic cellphone holder in the tray to hold the phone in place. It was easy. Just Dremel off the fuzzy covering at the mounting position down to a hard surface and stick on the magnet.
