Default XJ575 owners - do you have ambient air vent lights?

Just noticed my XJ575 doesn't have ambient air vent lights (the 'blue rings') or any ambient footwell lighting. Is it broken, or wasn't it standard fit on a 575? I know on some older XJs it was an option.... but I'd have thought they would have thrown the lot in a 575...

Our '16 Portfolio had it, but our Collection doesn't. I believe it was part of some appearance package or just an option box to check.

Just checked my TOPIx spec printout, Yep, they don't have it as standard (for the 575). Seems a bit of a miss for their 'top of the range' car at the time!

The Autobiography is/ was the Top of the Range - 575 is a hooligan.

I do not, and personally, I dislike them. At night, I prefer a dark cockpit without any extraneous lighting. I had an XJ loaner when my wife's F-Pace was in for a service that had them and found the reflections off the windscreen very distracting.

I flew fighter jets for a living, and at night, any extra lighting would interfere with the performance of NVGs

I agree with the distraction thing, especially in the side windows. The centre vents aren't too bad, but the side vent reflections on the side windows across the view of the wing mirrors are horrible.

They are pretty. Ideally they would be 'selectable'. I was curious to know if mine were broken, or not fitted!

It raises a far more interesting question though @wombat for which I'm itching to know the answer. Which FJ type?

cbarr,

Huge thread drift, but yes!

I flew the F3 as an RAF pilot before moving over to the test pilot world. I now live in the US.

Very cool. It deserves a separate thread. Pilots who drive Jaguars!

cdarr,

I flew the SEPECAT Jaguar twice (from the back seat), it was nothing like our cars! Horribly underpowered, got airborne based on the curvature of the earth. Hated it.

Yep, that was a bit of an under-powered Jag! I guess you have the 575-variant of big cat?
