Earth lead not reusable. Why?
I disconnected the earth cable from the engine to the chassis today. There is a notice on it saying it cannot be reattached to the car once it has been removed. A new one should be used. Which is €37/£29/$42 for LNB3740AA. Can somebody please explain to me the reason behind it?
Thanks, Olav.

We use to test and replace ground straps on aircraft
Had a quick access stock bin on the floor of the hanger
We used a device called a megger which tested around 700 volts
Ground straps do degrade in service
The label is probably to ensure the Jaguar product in service life stays up to quality operation

That is interesting. I can understand testing and replacing them on aircraft, but on a motor vehicle? You could tow a car with that cable. Hard to believe it would degrade enough to become unusable for automotive purposes!
Or... maybe it was left over in the Coventry factory from when it was a shadow aircraft factory in WW2?
