ELM327 scanner question
Hello all, I've been pm'ing with very helpful 'Lady Penelope' about ELM327's that work with the 96 Jag v12 and thought I'd broaden the question- does anyone have a hardware device and software that's working well with the ECU on these?
I was going to futz around trying units but thought this might be a good thread to establish what works from people who have found a working combination (or not...)
I'm about to take the plunge and diagnostics would be very useful...

Last year I bought a Foxwell NT-630 Pro. It was to replace an older generic scan tool that only worked for the basics. The new Foxwell has ABS and airbag scanning, and a color screen with data plotting from two inputs. Data can be loaded to the PC, and the software can be upgraded. It cost a bit over $100.
I had an airbag warning, so I was hopeful that it would tell me why. It did not. It will not read the airbag module or the abs module. It does not remember my vehicle or the Jaguar code library. Oh well. Like the old unit, it does the basics. The buttons have a cheap feel, and the color screen is of low quality and resolution. So, not a great investment.
I have not used the ELM 327, but I have seen others that have discussed, posted screenshots, etc. It seems to be more capable than my Foxwell.
The bottom line is that most scan tools will provide only the basics for this first-generation OBDII system. It is simply too antiquated. Maybe there are some higher-end scan tools that would do better, but so far none have shown up around here or in the X300 section that I've ever seen.
Still, I am happy to have the benefit of the basic OBDII diagnostics, especially because the 1995 model year didn't require it yet. It is usually helpful.
EDIT: After revisiting the scanner, I was able to get it to read the ABS. It flashed the Trac Fail light and displayed that the ABS has no faults. Looking at the saved file later on the PC, it identified the ABS system as FORD, X300, 1995 and saved my manually input VIN. But only for the ABS test.
The technology and feel of this scanner is about what I would expect from the 1990s, not 20+ years on. Also, there is no software to display the data on the PC. Can't recommend it.

Innova 3120, tested on 1995 XJ12 is listed here, anyone familiar with this canner for the x305?

I can't find the scanner port on my new x305! Just spent quite a bit of time upside down by the pedal looking and I do see a port sized metal bracket north of the ski slope under the dash, hoping that's not where it used to be?!
I'm just going through all my fuses and connections but that one is pretty important. I looked in the manuals for it but couldn't find the location, can anyone shed a light on this?

G'day Oliver,
According to my 1995 X305 technical guide the OBD socket should be in the driver's footwell on the side of the centre console adjacent to the accelerator pedal.
Cheers,
Jeff.

I found it after a lot of contortions - the bracket that holds the OBD port is empty and the actual port was tucked up well up behind the carpet, thought I was going mad there for a minute!
I was distracted yesterday as a friend had his D type replica in town for the day, got some good photos

That little device probably does 3/4 of what expensive ones do for these first-gen obd2 cars!
I think the D-type stole a little of the glory from your car in that video! Just a bit...
But wouldn't it for most any other car too.
