Default V12 Serviced with 5W30

I have owned my x305 fire about a year, and although normally service my cars myself, took it in to the local Jaguar dealer for a service, thinking it was worth it to make sure everything is all good.

I was really surprised when the used 5w30 oil.
The temperate in in the North of NZ ranges from about -5 to degree’s C, and according to the owners manual I would think 10w40 would be the right oil for that ambient temperature range.

Am I obsessing over nothing? Big deal or not?

Let's be sensitive about Jaguar V12s around here....

I would prefer to run a heavier weight than 5W30, but since it is an officially acceptable viscosity at some temps and oils have improved so much since the 6L was developed, it's probably fine.

Like I was saying, about those fuel hoses.... Not such a problem with the 305 yet but with the XJ-S, it is no joke! Lol.

I've never heard of anyone in the V12 business state that 5W/30 is the go-to for it. Did they consult you at all? Was it just the cheapest because you needed 11L? Did they mistake your Daimler Double-Six for an XE 25t?

That being said, I concur with John, it'll probably be fine. It is winter there after all.

*This is not an oil thread.

They just serviced the vehicle, and when I asked what oil they put in so that I knew what to top it up with, they said fully synthetic 5w30. But I was being picky, so checked the owners manual when home.

They said it’s the same oil that they always use for my model car/engine. There can’t be many x305’s running in NZ, but they do come up from time to time, so they may have serviced them before, I just don’t know.

On the upside, they were complimentary about the car.

Thanks for the reassurance.

Maybe Jag thought circulating 11 litres of oil is a big job for the oil pump? I have my sump sandwich plate off and was ruminating on that. As engines get to higher miles travelled we tend to put heavier oil in, but that's a greater load on the circulation systems especially as the crud builds up. My sump plate had a lot of black goop sitting around on it.
I was going to put 10 40 synthetic in but now stroking chin on this one...
