Default 04' XJ8 Rear Window Trim Failure

After the unseasonable snow last week in Dallas, it seems a piece of my rear window trim has separated from the body. The trim piece around the upper portion of the driver side rear door has come loose. I'm not sure if the cold simply made the glue separate or if this is a more common structural failure. Thoughts on a fix and or suitable source for replacement?

There is actually a plastic clip that holds it in place. The same happened to mine about a year ago. I am still under warranty so they change that peice of the trim.

Unfortunately, mine is no longer under warranty for this type of repair. I believe I've found a suitable replacement part source, but I still need to verify. Do you happen to remember whether they replaced the entire trim piece [eg, all the chrome], or just the portion above the rear window?

It would be great if someone had some assembly/disassembly pictures

Please let me know if you find some pictures. Mine looks almost the same way on both sides, but not quite as bad. I haven't tried to tackle it yet as I'm probably the only one who notices at the moment!

So I've found the piece that attaches to the actual window... but not the chrome trim piece that runs the length of the window frame.

They were able to just replace the peice over the rear window.

Is this what you are looking for? The molding clip may be all you need.

The parts catalogue you have their looks pretty handy, where did you get it from if you don’t mind me asking?

Thanks

Philip

There are a few available in our stickies above.

Doesn't seem to be! I'll send it to a moderator for posting.

hlgeorge, thanks so much for the picture. I believe that clip is what I'm looking for.

one quick question though... for future reference, can I get a more direct link to the parts catalog referenced in hlgeorge's post? I can't seem to find the original link...

I believe I found it... Jaguar Topix. Those subscriptions are horribly expensive.

quick update. The local Jag dealership had the clips in stock. $1.50 for the white ones, $3.00 for the black ones. I bought two of each just in case. Once I get to the installation, I'll try to take some pictures and share.

Thanks for the update. I am particularly interested in how the entire chrome trim pieces can been removed and placed back on the car. My trim is starting to stick out (not as bad as yours) but I am afraid to break anything!

Quick update. It looks like the parts I purchased are not the official fix. Apparently, the chrome trim has a backing layer [plastic] to which the clips connect. The chrome strip separated from its backing layer... fail!

Try automotive double-sided tape perhaps?

I'm going to try some automotive grade plastic adhesive. Before I do so, I need to hit Harbor Freight in search of a large C-clamp so I can get it to set up correctly.
