1 of 4 windows stopped working
2008 XJ8, my slowly decaying problem child handed me another fail de jour! Yesterday driver side window went up/down just fine..today nothing happens. The other 3 work fine.
I doubt there is a fuse per window, so going to try to swap switch with a spare I have. If not may live with it (no more drive through ha ha). Just don't feel like tearing door panel off to debug.
Any other ideas?
Thanks - Randy

Hi Randy,
one test to see whether you have a problem with the switch is to try opening and closing the windows by using the key fob. If you press the openingbutton for a longer time, the windows and the sliding roof (if there is one) should open. The same applies to the closing button. If all the windows work, then it could be a switch problem in the drivers switch module.
Apart from this, looking at the schematics it seems that, contrary to your asumption, each power windows has indeed its own fuse. The one for the drivers door window should be Fuse no F37 (25 A), located in the fuse box in the passenger footwell.
BTW, if everything else fails, removing the door panel on these cars is quite easy. I was surprised that, for once, there are no plastic pins that brake when you already look at them...
Best regards,
Thomas

Ongoing saga..window has been fine for weeks, then today just driving down the road, the driver front window lowered itself!!
And it would not go up using the switch. Got home, went inside and an hour later I put key in, turned to accessory and well hell...the dsmn window went up with the switch.
Any theories/ suggestions besides demonic posession?
I guess the switch might be sketchy but seems odd it randomly lowered them would not raise. I slammed door and banged switches a bit but did not rise until that hour later

Hi Randy,
you can actually dismantle the switch module to see if something is wrong after removing it from the door panel. For removal, the door panel does not need to be removed.
I had the problem that some of the switches did not do the "automatic", you had to operate the switch for the whole time the window needs to go up or down. It was a problem with the case of the switches not closing properly, and I could fix it with some power tape. No issues since then, knock on wood...
