Hey Doug, welcome to the forums...your Jags forum is here... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-x350-x358-28/ ...but, like any vehicle, to access the cylinder key to attain why it won't operate, you'll probably have to remove the door card. Then probably break it down and clean it up, sometimes just some simple lubrication takes care of it. Here's a note, WD40 is not a lubricant, don't use it or you'll be in the same scenario in a few months. A dry silicone is best, you can get a small can from your local hardware. It's also possible you may be able to put a bit of the lubricant in the key hole and let it sit a bit and try the key back and forth without forcing it, then apply a bit more and work it some more until it frees. Then you can test your All Up Window and Lock and All Down Window and Unlock option.

Hi Doug,

I have moved your thread from the forum for the X308 to the forum for the X350, which is the Jaguar project factory code for your 2004 XJ8.

Cheers,

Don

How does one remove the door card without opening the door? Can this be done without sacrificing the door card?

Hi Jaroslav,

Presumably Doug can open his door using the interior door handle. I believe there are threads that discuss how to remove the interior door panels with the door closed.

Cheers,

Don

You are probably correct, allegedly that's a known issue as described here on the sister website:

There is a common fault with the Volvo door latches fitted to these cars, whereby an internal part of the latch can stick and eventually breaks off preventing the locking/unlocking actuator from working. Manual unlocking normally continues to work.

I concur with what Highhorse said, I would dismantle the lock and try to clean everything. The lock in the drivers door and the boot are the ones that almost never get used due to the use of the key fobs, and so they canget stuck in the long run.

Best regards,

Thomas

I had that on my car when I bought it, and I till this day I don't know how the mechanic at the shop managed to get to the lock to replace it

A quick follow up to my original post ;

So initially the key only went half way into the lock and obviously would not turn

3 blasts of WD40 and 2 puffs of dry graphite lock powder into the key hole ....Key went all the way in and turned to lock and unlock door . Problem solved
