2004 XJR Lost Key
Hi everyone,
We lost the keys to our 2004 XJR. I have a spare that the previous owner gave me and it opens the doors, trunk, and even opens all of the windows and the moon roof when you hold down the unlock key. The problem is even though the key is cut to turn the ignition it will not start the car. Please help, I tried the below advice and it didn't work.

- Open drivers door.
- Hold the highbeam selector arm towards you.
- Insert ignition key and key to first position (acc)
- Release the high beam selector and then pull and release the high bean. selector 4 times. ...
- Then press the lock button on each remote to program it in.
Thank you for replying, I am in Highland CA, I called our local dealer in Riverside and they said they don't have the equipment to work on vehicles that old. Is there a program or something that can be purchased to program the key?
You will need a minimum of TWO KEYS to configure to the car.
There are ways to 'cheat' the system to fool the car into configuring ONE key, a spare key from another similar Jaguar and some aluminum foil.
I never tried it but I did witness it at the dealer where I worked. (it is possible)

I just ordered a second key, how do I go about programing it when it comes in tomorrow? I called multiple locksmiths in my area and they said that they cannot help.

Scot, I had extra keys for my '05 made by the Indianapolis JLR dealer 3 years ago, but the car absolutely had to be there, my name on the registration, etc. I took along a key blank I had bout cheap on the internet, but they wouldn't touch it. I just bought a '08 with only one key, so I'll be calling them for an appointment as soon as it is registered in my name (3 weeks). Hard to believe your local JLR dealer can't do this. SURELY they must know who can. Talk to a zone rep if they continue to play dumb, and get ready for a road trip.
