Default 2005 X350 ws wipers park in mid wind shield

The wiper switch has a number of notches or switch positions. It frequently happens that the wiper blades will park in mid screen, rather than "lying down". I have no idea whether the fault lies with the ws wiper motor, or the switch. Does anyone have any experience with this, because I don't understand this at all !?

Will they move again if you play with the stalk/hit the screenwash? Wiper motors and linkages can go but in my experience (with other cars, mostly Fords) the stalk tends to go first as they are usually copper to copper physical connections that wear out or tarnish

I had a similar problem on a MK3 Ford Mondeo, on normal wipe it was OK but if it was on rain sensing or intermittant the park position would slowly creap up the windscreen. It would get to the point that the wipers would stop working and flicking the wipers back to normal wiping would fix it until the process started again. I tried a stalk and motor but neither fixed it, I never did get it sorted.

Check the relay, there are two one for speed and the other for stop.

I don't have a fix, but report this does happen intermittently with my 08 X358. There appear to be 2 park positions, one correct and one mid-screen.

When it happens, all the intermittent wiper settings are unuseable really, however one can pull the wiper stick back (single wipe) until the wiper is past the "intermediate" position and it will then park normally.

Much more worrying, on my classy Jag, is that every time it happens my wife just bursts out laughing...

(A search suggests possible earthing wire problem perhaps near the headlights, though I haven't got that far yet)

Thanks to those who have responded to my question. I have now juggled with the wiper controls and its now functioning properly again. However I am not at all clear what particular combination of switch positions cause the problem. The comment that its a goofy intermitent grounding problem is often the cause of strange behaviours !!

Kind of amusing in a way, not your issue at all.

Just that so many people try to get them to park midway.

When its time to change the wiper blades.

Heh-Heh. Someone suggested you could get to mid-park by the single-wipe with ignition on-engine off. But they sure made a fool out of me when I needed it. They must have been suffering this fault and not realised it. :-)

My 2008 X358 does the same thing. When on intermittent, they will occasionally park in the middle of the windshield, it defs makes passengers laugh- lol.

Others on the forum have reported the relays for the wiper system can go bad and replacing them may cure the problem. I have not gotten around to replacing the relays yet but it makes since as if the relay gets stuck or the power switches off they will park.

Very annoying when it does happen
