Default 2008 rear side marker replacement

The right rear side marker on my 2008 Vanden Plas has stopped working and and is filled with water. The dealer wants $428 to replace it, an amount that seems outrageously high. I have found a used one for $80. Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the side marker?

I can't remember for the life of me but I did one a short time ago. What you got to do is look from below your car to the inside of the light assembly and figure out what way you have to pry to take it out. I stick a small screwdriver at the back and pry towards the front and pull it out (if I remember correctly). Is not that hard. What you need to do is clean the connector and then drill a small hole at the bottom of the housing so water drains down and you save some bucks. We usually do this for the cost of the marker and the bulb plus 20 bucks, didn't know the dealer was charging so much. Also you can look from the bottom of the car to see how it comes out.

best of luck!

Get brand new ones for half the price of your used one! I replaced mine on the right hand side with these units. They are *perfect*!

Jaguar Right Side Directional Lamp C2C2046 03 06 XJ8 XJR | eBay
Jaguar Right Rear Side Marker Lamp C2C2049 for 2003 2006 XJ8 | eBay

Getting them out are easy. Pry them gently from the wider side (left or right, not top or bottom). One side will pop up and then you slide it out.

Ok ok I agree with the guy above except the left to right part. Can't be left to right because one side would be good but the other side won't. That's why I said from the back of the car to the front of the car or viceversa... But he is right they are not that expensive. When you get the new ones you can see exactly what you have to do

I had to replace the connectors in mine (2004 XJ8). Bought new for a few bucks, but they were a little small for the openings in the light fixture, so I hot glue them in. Spent about $15.00 for both sides

I knew you would get help here, when you resubmited your question in the Jaguar Models (Modern)> XJ (X350 & 358) Forum Section for your car. There are also helpful posts in the How To Section regarding many home maintenance project like oil changes and brakes.

Fortunately I have a 2004 XJ VDP which is similar. You can go to New and Used Jaguar Parts for XJ6, XJS, XJ8, XK8, S-TYPE and X-TYPE to find the new part for about $88.00 http://www.jagbits.com/mm5/merchant....de=C2C35377you

Hey reyesl, on that part you used to replace the bulb holder, by that do you mean he little base that twists into the actual side marker? I have a 2004 XJ8 and the inside of the bulb holder/base rusted and I can't find a replacement anywhere without buying the entire side marker, which I don't need.

A wooden paint stick comes in handy to protect the paint/body from the prying action of the screwdriver.

Yes, that part replaces the bulb holder. You may also try your local auto wrecking yard for a used one from a VW.
