2008 XJ Super V8 x350 - digital display wont turn off
Hi everyone, the small digital display in the instrument cluster that typically displays the mileage won’t turn off even without the key and it’s draining the battery. Any help?
I've changed the battery
I play around with the ignition key
Ive tried the 2nd key
Ive Tried locking the car with the key
Context:
Recently I did get a reverse camera installed and Bluetooth music but those guys says they’ve tried everything and concluded that it’s not related to what they did.
Also sometimes when I try to lock the car with the fob it beeps twice noting that a door is open but nothing is and I have to use the key
Finally, even though the headlight stock is set to OFF my headlights turn on when I put the car in drive. Not sure if that is a feature or a fault.
Maybe all related? Maybe all separate issues?

Welcome to the forum.
I would say with much certainty it's the reverse camera install that's caused this issue for you.
They have probably taken the power source for the reverse trigger function from somewhere they shouldn't have, and it's feeding back power through the video interface, into whatever they tapped the power for the interface from.
I came across this during the reverse camera install in my XJR.

Thank you. I’m going to ask them to simply disconnect the camera system from the power source and try it to see if I can eliminate this as a variable or hopefully it will fix it. Thanks again.
For the headlight issue, I agree with Mark in Maine. Daytime Running Lights sounds likely - It's an option for most or all X350's in the touchscreen, under:
Menu,
System Setup,
Vehicle Settings.
Worth a quick look in any case.

The only way I know of finding parasitic draw, is to back probe, or remove fuses one by one, after the computers go to sleep. Search parasitic draw in the forums. There will be tons of results. Keep in mind that some systems can affect others and give a false impression.
