The lids on 04 na and sc are the same. Its the lower box with electric solenoid operated door for additional air that is different

Default My answer to your this common issue.

The lid on my 2006 XJR looked different than the XJ8 lids I looked at. Decided to fix professionally.
Installed an XJR clamping devise to eliminate chance of air leak and future failure of other latch.
These are 60.00 including shipping. 100.00 for two.

As Brutal mentioned the air lid for the N/A 4.2 and SC cars are the same.

Some people have mentioned having issues closing the air lid when fitting K&N aftermarket filters.

I have a K&N installed in my XJR. I make sure the slots in the air lid are fully engaged in the base of the air filter housing before attempting to close the lid.

I also disconnect the rubber hose from the air lid assembly and disconnect the harness as well.

All you state about fitting a K&N is true. I buggered my air filter box this past summer. Used a bungee cord to keep it closed until I found a used one on eBay.
A bit of silicone grease around the seal and on the tabs/slots helped. I only used the top. the bottom piece is available.

Also, I covered the air intake to the airbox with 1/4" hardware cloth (wire mesh). I found that chipmunks or mice had been nesting in the airbox dragging along acorns and bird seed. Just thought I'd pass this tidbit along.
