Default Xj6 S1 Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning

Dear Sirs

I'm restoring a JX6 series 1, 1973...last year production.

This car has installed an after market air con system, the ones that have the evaporator under the shelf at the passenger side, ugly and taking space.

Once I have a donor car with factory air con, I want to replace the complete air box in the firewall in restoring car, for the standard one (evaporator in the blend box). Until now all looks nice and easy...

When I really had explored this replacement, realized that at the top of the blend box the evaporator window has a flap vacuum actuated. I believe that this flap is for recirculation or fresh air intake control.

Other problem is that this blend box do not have side outlets for the right and left ducting for fascia vents and the ducting for windscreen is direct for windscreen outlets!!

The expansion valve is not installed at outside of blend box, but inside.

This model of blend box and evaporator/expansion valve is not referred in the Jaguar parts or service manuals.

Does any of you know this type of blend box and evaporator/air distribution tuning?

The attached images are from the blend box with evaporator included.

Thanks
Paulo

Default How about a picture of the other side and top?

From your description, it is a odd evaporator. I have never seen or heard of a after market AC system that used their own.

Can you post some photos of the other side and the top?

There are some more pictures.

The blend box on all the pictures are from the donor car - factory fitted AC and not from after market.

Thanks

Default Here are pictures of my evaporator out of the car

I did not see any of the vent sources on your evaporator?

Compare yours to mine...there are only minor differences between '71-'73
and that is the placement of the control PCB for the fans and the later fans themselves.

I currently use GM fans for more speed and air movement.

Roger

The lower outlets are the same as yours (one is in place and the other are not). The big mystery remains on the side outlets for fascia that your has and mine do not have.

And the flap on top of blend box.
Do you have any picture of backside of your box?

Default More evaporator photos

I have a spare one and can take photos for you from any direction? Just ask.

My AC and heater system has been heavily modified to get maximum AC performance. Added dual vents in the parcel tray and am using Vintage Air Electronic heater servo (replaces the water valve and does not use vacuum to open and close the valve).

It has a large condenser with modern internals and I use a small Sanden compressor. The expansion valve has been replaced and is compatible with R134.

I get high 30F AC temps at the side vents in the dash and cooler temps from the center vents. It looks stock inside except for the dual vents.
