Default Air Suspenders (Again!)

Sorry all, I just joined a week ago and diligently read a MASSIVE thread about air suspension.

Went to investigate my car... and now I can't find the thread again! So:

1998 XJ-R V8. The suspension works but it's rock-hard, appears to be level though. Warning light says there's a suspension fault. (It's in German!)

According to the thread I was following, it may just be a relay. So I downloaded couple of manuals, but neither mention which relay it might be.

The thread said (I think) a nē4. There appear to be 2 possible relay culprits.

Any ideas where to go from here?

Thanks in advance,

Norm.

Welcome to the Forum!
I made an attempt to locate a Fuse/Relay diagram for your 1998 MY XJR and found none, will be searching on Captain Jaguar's site next. You might have more results if your request was posted in the X308 section (1997 - 2003 MY).

Checked the Electrical Guide and could not locate any reference to suspension relays.

Hi Norm

Air suspension was only fitted to the X350 cars which came out in 2003. Your 1998 XJR is on steel coils. Of course you may have a defective shock absorber. Your XJ-R probably has CATS, and the system has detected open-circuit on one of the shocks. You should see an electrical connection to the shocks. Try unplugging and replugging each connection, as it may have corrosion. If CATS detects a fault, the shocks will go to HARD setting, which is the default.

Guys, how do you reach the top of the back shocks to check the connector? Is it back seat removal time?

Thanks,

Norm

1. Remove the "Boot Floor Panel"
2. Remove the 2 "Side Panels"
3. Remove the black "Foam Protective Covers" on top of the shock mounts.

Hmmm... nope, that's not what I'm seeing. I removed the panels as suggested, but it would appear that the shock top is in a turret below the rear parcel shelf in my car.

Many thanks for the suggestion, all the same.
