Tried another code reader that I was advised was ELM327 compatible but this one also does not seem to connect to my car. Not sure if it's just my car or I'm just unlucky.
This is the one I tried.
Just going to order a different one to try. I'll let you know if I get better success with the new one.
I have several that look like this and they work well with the Torque Pro app for Android. Out of the five or six I've purchased only one was defective.
I got the Blu Driver Scan tool for my 2006 XJ8. Works well,
Thanks for mentioning the BlueDriver, Frank. I had seen Scotty's video and looked up the BlueDriver price and then forgotten about it.
From reading their website, it looks like BlueDriver might possibly be able to read the proprietary Jaguar Body (B-prefix), Chassis (C-) and Network (U-) DTCs. Have you found that it can do so on your XJ8, or does it only read the Powertrain (P-) codes?
I had to laugh at the claim on their website that BlueDriver is "the scan tool pros trust most." If that were true, why do most professional technicians spend thousands on a bi-directional Autel, Launch or SnapOn, in addition to proprietary manufacturers' diagnostic systems for makes they frequently service.
Nevertheless, if the BlueDriver can read Jaguar B, C and U codes, it should be seriously considered by Jag owners.
Directly quoting my owner's manual, "the Foxwell NT510 Multi-System scanner can read diagnostic trouble codes, and view "live' data readings from all electronic vehicle control systems such as engine, ABS and instrument cluster. You can also save "recordings" of the data readings, print information and perform special function tests such as coding, basic setting and adaption, In addition, you can use it for oil service interval reset and EPB system maintenance".

Hi Rickkk,
Have you found that your Foxwell NT510 can read the proprietary Jaguar B, C and U codes? I ask because I have found that many OBDII scanners can read proprietary manufacturers codes for some higher-volume makes, such as Ford, GM and Chrysler, but cannot do so on Jaguars.
Hi Don. In fact, I only used the Foxwell NT510 Multi-System scanner once early last year, and that was simply to read the engine trouble codes. The scanner may read B, C & U codes as well, but I would have to investigate further in that regard.

Hello Don,
Sorry for the delay, I didn't have a chance yesterday to connect the Blu-Driver to the car. I am not sure which are the codes you mentioned so what I did tonight was do the "live" data feature and screenshot all the supported codes it shows. Sometimes my car says "cruise not available" but I don't get any codes for that. When I scan for trouble codes it says no problems found. These screenshots are from the "Live Data" feature of the scanner, which was helpful to me in understanding the coolant gauge. I thought it was broken until I found a post here on the forum that indicates it stays at 50% for a wide range of temperature. Some screen shots may have repeated codes because of how the scrolling worked out on my phone. The check marks are only there for things I chose to display or log live, the app recommends you don't pick more than 4 or 5 at a time.

Hi Frank,
Thank you for posting those screenshots. The BlueDriver Live Data display seems very similar to and just as complete as the one in Torque Pro.
Thinking about your Cruise Not Available warning, plenty of faults that can inhibit cruise will trigger P- codes, which the BlueDriver should be able to read. But a lot of other issues, such as faults with the air suspension, anti-lock brakes, or multiplex network, will trigger B-, C- or U- codes but not a P- code, so it is possible the BlueDriver is not capable of reading those (Torque Pro can't either). I'd love to hear from you if in the future you find that it can in fact do so. Our members are always looking for affordable scan tools that can read all the Jaguar codes, so please let us know!
As mentioned I've now got some readings from the car which I'll post up in another thread. It seems that the scanner cannot read or access individual cylinder sensors so I presume they either don't exist or the car does not provide the sensor data. I seem to get the basics like MAF and coolant sensor readings etc.
